So these Banned AJ 31's that are dropping are apparently meant to be the Air Jordan 1 re-thought for the modern day. 'What the Air Jordan 1 would be like, if it was made in 2016" (flyknit upper turning into leather heel and neoprene sock inside)

Got me thinking - Maybe Jordan Brand is starting from scratch on all the models. instead of dropping retro after retro after retro and that business plan getting old and boring and not something they can continue to rely on...... Maybe now each new AJ that comes out will be that original number eing reimagined with how that shoe would be if it was made today with todays tech.

So will the AJ 32 be a re thought out AJ2 using modern day materials and tech?

Will the AJ 3 be rethought out for the AJ 33.

If this is what they are doing, I can't wait to see the AJ 33 and the AJ36.

To be honest, retro after retro dropping every weekend is getting old and people are losing interest so from a business perspective, I think if they are reimagining the retros with todays materials and tech and we see them drop in order, then the Jordan Brand is going to be doing some very cool shoes in the future and a whole new business plan to keep the brand alive.

Anyone else think this is what is going to happen?

This video kind of says it all really. I just hope they continue it with each new years model.

(wouldn't hurt the value of the shoes already released either)

The XXX1s look hideous-if this is the future of the brand, they should start worrying that Nike will eventually consolidate the brand back into Nike.

Pretty neat idea...the 3 would def be something to look at...in a way kinda living off the past but hell that's what JB is living off of so why not re imagine older models with new tech...I do think they would somewhat sell better going this route

The XX9 and XXX blow these out of the water.

Huge dropoff with the uninspired design.

Consolidate the brand back to Nike??? $5.3 BIL in JB sales so far 2016, outpacing the ENTIRE Nike basketball lineup by almost $2BIL, nah I don't think a "consolidation" is happening anytime this century.

In 30-40 years when MJ is dead and most people who watched MJ play for the Bulls are either dead or old and celebs stop wearing retros for the same reason-how is the brand going to still have the same business model of selling retros? None of their recent products have been very exciting and that is an issue if you want to plan for long-term growth.

30 or 40 years? You're in a lane of your own man. Not many countries, companies or people have their next 40 years projected out because it's near impossible, too many unpredictable engines and variables.

Man 25 yearss ago were the good days. No terrorist BS, just everyone on acid and neon coloured clothing. The one thing everyone had in common no matter what country you were from, everyone watched the Bulls and the lakers, everyone loved MJ , you were super cool at high school if you were one of the very few who walked into sports class wearing the latest Jordan infrareds and you ****ed if you had the 5's and those who had the 6's thought the guys with the 7's were the try-hards , trying to be as cool as those before them who wore the black infrareds. Everyone could skate, halfpipes in back yards were dope and you only went to youth group at the church to play some BBall.

Since those days they have released retro after retro after retro and in the last 1-1.5 years the retros have died and they have started making them mainly all general releases. The ones that should be super hard to cop going with the theme of JB are like the black metallics with nike air and the maroon 6's with nike air and the sport blue 6's, which were all basic to cop.

JB is still making a fortune but slowly JB real enthusisats are starting to feel like they have all the jordan retros they want and now with these new reconditioned or whatever they are calling it, now with these new better made retros coming out, people are starting to realise they will get the reconditioned ones and call it a day.

Im 39 and That is how i feel, but now I see the 31's get rushed to market looking like a jordan 1 but with modern day tech, I just got excited again. Those Banned 31's look sic and if i am right and the 32's will be a modern way of making the old 2's, then im super excited for the 33's, 34's, 35's and the 36's and will get a couple of each years in different colourways and they will have me hooked for at least another 11 years of collecting jordans and taking $300 a fortnight out of my pocket and turning my 28 year collection into a 38 year collection and I'll be getting my son the same kicks and ten he will start his 40 year collection and they got us giving them all our money for the next 50-100 years in this family tree.

I am super excited if these 31's start a modernised-retro collection. The only mistake they could make though is dropping a dozen different colour ways like all the 20's.

if they stick to 4 or 5 max colourways of each model then this will be a hell of a decade, starting all over again.

Can you imagine mdoernised 3's after seeing these banned 31's? I can not. Modernised 6's though, I think those will be fukn dope.

Right as i was wrapping up my 28 year collection and having to have a lounge room just for a shoe collection of shoe boxes, it looks like they just got tied me up and pulled my wallet back into the next decade.

These banned 31's may look stupid to some, but I think they will be gutted in 6 years if they didnt get them.

P.S. Whatever happened to the Slam Dunk collaboration. Guess that ended with the 6's. Thank god because I didnt want that shoe overdone.

P.S.S. Sorry to the young fullas for such a long post. Im a New Zealander and Kanye West is nowhere near as big as Michael Jordan was around the world. MJ was the biggest thing in the world , much bigger than all this kanye west and kim and taylor crap put together is. You dont sit down with your parents and talk about those idiots, but in the MJ era, every generation that had eye sight watched MJ

I wish the young fullas could of experienced those years. Especially MC Hammer and his music videos (LOL)

Good business plan if that's what they are doing. Anyone in their late 30's will agree and it is people in their late 30's who have the dissposable income that they are after. one pair for them, one for their son, one for their collection. Every fortnight.

For sure but is Jordan Brand going to continue with it's current business model of selling retros instead of putting out innovative, newer products that people will like?

Don't get me wrong, the XX9s and XXXs are great for basketball (I own both) but they the casual appeal of older retros and even some of Nike's other products. Also, they don't have Steph or Lebron (arguably the 2 best players in the league) pushing them so most people will probably veer towards their signature line because of the fan/nostalgic effect of wearing the best player's shoes (a feeling Jordan Brand USED to provide when MJ wore the shoes).

A while back I thought it would be a cool idea for them to do a AJ -1 or any negative in front of the model number. I.E : AJ-5 or AJ-13.
I was thinking they could make it a polar opposite of the model that was released, also giving meaning to the negative. But I do agree they need to start coming with some nicer new models.

wait wtf... am I the only one who likes the XXX1?

A lot of people seem to like it for basketball. I love my XX9s and XXXs but I wouldn't be caught dead in them outside of the court or gym. Some models just don't look good for casual wear with current fashion trends.. This MIGHT change but even wearing a pair of 2001 Nike Flightposite 3s for casual wear would look really weird nowadays.

They should have Tinker design a lifestyle Jordan shoe.

It could turn out dope AF , or it could be a total flop like those Jordan Eclipse shoes.

I love the retros because I grew up watching MJ play so they will always hold a special place in my life, but it would be cool to see some new dope ish.
