my last question is 2 all administrators of this site. What would it take for you 2 cop a newly produced retro?
I'm beyond fringe at this point, and I acknowledge that. Jordan brand simply doesn't produce sneakers for me anymore - they'd muchrather pluck the low-hanging fruit than attempt to satisfy consumers who expect the very best from them.
The Space Jam XIs are apparently due out this winter and I, for one, have no plans to buy them - even if they are absolutely identical to those released in2000. Why, you might ask? For starters, I have absolutely no need for them. I still have a pair in perfect, DScondition and another pair I've worn perhaps twice. I need a brand new pair of Space Jams like I need a sixth toe on either foot.
With a retro, I would normally demand a true, respectful replica of the originals, so true Jordan fans can ownand enjoy products that live up to those that captured their hearts and gained their loyalty. It has always struck me as spiteful, if not lazy, tointentionally cut corners and produce shoes that are misshaped, inaccurate, and simply inferior to those produced decades ago.
I can set the bar that high (or that low, really, considering it ought to be terribly easy for the brand to produce SUPERIOR products given that productiontechniques and efficiency have only improved in the intervening decades and retros require no R&D or even advertising funds to launch, which means theycould, and should, afford to spend more on the product itself) because, as a collector, I'm content with what I have. I could refrain from purchasing asingle pair of shoes from this point forward and, save for a fire or similar catastrophe, I'd go without want for another pair of shoes. I have too manyshoes as it is, so there's precious little motivation for someone like me to purchase products that I'm ambivalent or even conflicted about. If aproduct doesn't blow me away in some regard, I'd rather simply wear shoes I already own. One would be hard pressed to prove to me that Jordan brandshoes in particular are any better than sneakers I already own, most of them from the Jordan brand in its heyday.
Beyond that, as I've grown up I've begun to demand more of myself and this, in turn, affects the products that I choose to purchase. As if Iweren't already seated firmly within the minority, for ethical and environmental reasons I no longer purchase items made with animals products - whether asandwich, a soap, a car, or a sneaker. It was gratifying to see that the Air Jordan XX3 was produced using "considered" standards, even if watereddown in comparison to other, more progressive products in the considered line. I was hoping the 2k9 would take a step forward in that regard, yet it proved anajbect disappointment in every conceivable area. I will say that I have purchased the nylon Air Jordan 1s for this reason. They're truer to the cut ofthe original 1s (more of a high than the 2001 retros, at least), which almost makes up for the superfluous jumpmen tacked on to the shoe due to pitiful brandinsecurity.
If you want to sell me a retro, the formula is straightforward: I'm either looking for an exact replica of a classic, perfectly executed (though replacinggenuine leather with high quality synthetics, which retain their shape better than genuine leather), or a new colorway that separates itself in some way fromwhat I already have stacks and stacks of in my collection, yet is executed in accordance with the class, sophistication, and elegance the line ONCE exuded. Igrew up wearing Air Jordans - and I say that in the past tense. I'm not 11 years old anymore. I'm not buying a shoe designed to match a breakfastcereal principally composed of marshmallows.
The CDPs were not good enough, and most every collector I know who's been into sneakers since the 80s has steered clear of them entirely, as I have. Theshoes were flat out garbage and rightly deserved to stagnate on store shelves. In 2007, I was given a pair of Black/Aqua Jordan VIIIs by a good friend andpurchased the Black/Red VIIIs at a discount solely because of Rajah's amazing 8th anniversary NikeTalk t-shirt. I skipped retros in 2008 entirely. In2009, I purchased the black/max orange and sapphire Air Jordan 1s. While a compromise, they were a step in the right direction - more accurate than the 2001pairs - and I wanted to support, with my consumer dollars - sneakers with an all nylon upper instead of leather.
A word about Rock, by the way: Rock does not work for Nike. I really don't see how he has a vested interest in sharing this information with his fellowcommunity members. He's a stand-up guy and I think the last thing we should do is PENALIZE him for risking his relationship with his contacts for ourbenefit. There are, undoubtedly, those who exploit and attempt to subvert NikeTalk to further their own narrow, selfish corporate agendas. I don't seethis as a market research attempt, to determine how people might react to the possibility of a Tinker-designed product. Instead, I see this in the same veinas the types of posts that established NikeTalk as the premier destination for sneaker news. One of our fellow members came across information of interest tothe community and took the time to share it with us. For that, I thank him.
Don't shoot the messenger.

My "empty statistic" is so obvious... Dare someone argue?

"premier" BS on these and I just don't have the energy for that after last year. I'm not jumping through hoops anymore. I'm done.

Not a chance. I'm not buying an ugly, overpriced sneaker for the sake of continuity in a meaningless collection. The shoes I do own,Originally Posted by Method Man
Yo Meth, if you got off on the 23rd stop and the 25th anniversary shoe turn out pretty nice, you will go back to 2009.

NTers have always despised retro + colors, inaccurate shapes and molds, as well as ever cheaper materials?
This is all JB is going 2 give us, they have proved it in 20008...
Consider this thread hi-jacked by yours truly, until a legitimate answer is given.
You "hinters" need 2 be realistic...
