Air Jordan 11 Retro- Black/Red “Playoff”- 12/14/2019

You're right.

But the quality of 2016 Space Jam retro >>> 2019 Playoff retro.

-Drew
Errrr ... Seriously? SJs are a great colorway but the build quality is at best the same. Meanwhile, the SJs have NO upper padding as 11s are supposed to have, and the patent cut is too high, if anything. Worst of the three between the SJs, Concords and Playoffs/black/reds. Wish it wasn't the case because I like the SJ colorway better than the black/red, but that retro is middle of the road. It's by far better than what we got for years with 11s, but Concords and black/reds smash them.

Really? I don't see much difference.

It may be personal opinion and the each retro might not be too far off from each other, but I gave the nod to the SJs.

Reasons being:
"Pimples" on the midsole were basically nonexistent on all my 2016 SJ pairs. Whereas they we on almost every single pair I've seen of the 2019 retro Playoffs (my pairs included).

2016 SJs had the 45 embroidered. 23 on the Playoffs are screen printed.

Patent cut on the SJs were amazing. They are supposed to be high.

I didn't see the difference in padding between the Playoffs and SJs.

Again, just my opinion.

What's the reason behind your statement?
I'm open to listen to all NT fam.

Respect and it's always down to personal taste. But since you asked:

* Pimples on midsoles is whatever--to me. Again, personal opinion. But no one can see them, me included, when wearing them. I don't care about this issue, though I would for sure prefer there were none. But it's basically irrelevant to me.

* Number on heel, printed or embroidered, is the least of my concerns. Again, just me. But since none of the OGs I ever had were embroidered, the fact the SJ's had it is just more of a bonus than anything I ever cared about.

* Patent cut is NOT "supposed" to be that high. They went overboard after years of going ludicrously low and hearing nothing but our complaints. So they responded almost in the extreme on the opposite end of the spectrum. It looks clunky. I still love SJs but they are still more "off" than the 11 retros that have followed.

* Similarly to the last point above: If you don't see the padding difference, look again. Squeeze the nylon upper of the SJ and then squeeze the Concords or black/reds. It's plain as day. The Concords and black/reds are made the same way as the OG versions in that regard. The SJs are a joke in comparison.

These are the reasons behind the statements. No hate and, again, it's all subjective to some degree. But as someone who had the OGs of 11s, I can unequivocally tell you that the Concord and black/red retros are far more faithful to the OG versions than the '16 SJs. For me, the proper upper padding and the slightly lower patent cuts end the discussion. Little bumps on the midsole from the modern molding process, and numbers on the heel, do not concern me. BUT that's just my old, OG *** talking LOL

Speaking of some pedantic, OCD shee-ite LOL: The patent on these comes with lots of little swirl marks/surface scratches. I was dusting off the pair I've been wearing for the past three days and, looking up close to my face, was like: WTF, how did I already put all of these little micro scratches/swirl marks in the patent? Then I pulled out my other DS pair and ... they have it, too, straight out of the box. It doesn't matter, you or anyone else will never see it unless you hold the shoes up to your eyes and look for it. But none of my pairs of '16 SJs or last year's Concords have it. It's always something with Nike/JB, man

I get what you're saying, man.

It really does seem like it's all a matter of personal preference based on what you and I have said and I can definitely dig your points.

I have to say though that we can't fairly compare the 2016 retros to the OGs released to the public back in the 90s or the 2000 "public release" of the Space Jams.

We never got the chance to purchase the PEs that the 2016 "Space Jam" retros were modeled after until two years ago.

And if you compare photos you can find of the PEs from that time, the ones with the purple Jumpman, you'll notice that the patent leather was cut ridiculously high on those as well.

But I do say all of this with all due respect. I just feel like JB did a great job of retroing that PE. Not the 2000 Space Jam. From the patent leather cut to the embroidered 45 that made all of us drool over the PE pair way back.

Respect. I just don't agree they did a great job on those. They did a decent job. My main thing is, I want 11s made the way they were back in 95/96, regardless of colorway. The patent cut on the '16s is definitely not what any pair of OGs was, including Mike's PE pairs of "Space Jams" from the '95 Playoffs. And the lack of upper padding on the '16 retro is a real sore spot for me. The Concords and now the black/reds are superior as a rendition of the OG 11s, that's my only thing. Still not selling any of my '16 Jams, though LOL

Definitely not, bro.

They're still dope. When I broke out my pair today, someone asked me where I was still able to buy a new pair of SJs lol.
I don't think he initially believed me when I said I let my Jordan pickups marinate for a year or two before I serve them to the public.

for anyone wondering what is going on with shipping internationally.
- The Government is trying to encourage sneaker companies to build factories in the United States instead of overseas. With the factories being overseas, millions of dollars worth of shoes are being sold annually without uncle Sam getting a cut.
- Moving forward, the laws will make it so difficult to get shoes from overseas into the United States; which in turn will make companies reconsider building factories locally. New Balance is the ideal model that Congress would like Nike and Adidas to follow.

I Foresee Nike is figuring out a way to make consumers pay an up charge to cover whatever extra fees Nike has with all the policy changes.

They’ll raise price to cover any kind of fees

Damn, good thing most of us here are hoarding loads of DS pairs and probably should be buying fewer pairs.

Don't get me wrong I love my Jams, but Rain king pretty much broke down why the last couple 11's are a bit better. Plus the fitting on these playoffs is better, they break in perfect after a few wears. With my Jams, I feel like I'm swimming in them lol.
