African American Male w/ Afro, want to make hair curly, will rep those who help.

To the dudes who have coarse black hair...how are you all combating dandruff? I mean just general dryness?

I've been told that we don't need to wash our hair as often because many OTC shampoos have sulfates and things like SDS in them which are heavy detergents and remove natural oils that we already lack inrelation to "white" hair.

Honestly you really dont need shampoo. Alot of people I know use coconut oil...but Palmers makes a sulfate free shampoo that I use. That, plus keeping your hair moisturized should get rid of dandruff for you...plus drink lots of water!

i basically condition my hair 3 to 4 times a week...shampoo(always with dandruff shampoo, once or twice a week) went from having BAD dandruff to none at all...basically condition more than you wash and EVERY time you get your hair wet, put sum  mousturizer in it...doesnt matter what...just sumn

also..

its like 20$ a bottle at the hair cuttery..they have cheaper alternatives that work just as good..

now..im mixed(wht/blk), but i used that stuff as an alternative to wave grease when waving(works beautifully, not heavy or greasy at all) but when i let the waves wolf a lil too far, pop this in and boom..instant drake curls...and like a previous poster said, i find the waves and curls kinda go together..easier to get curls just letting your waves grow out, and every time i cut the curley fro, theres waves already there....so give that a try...

I hate the fact that you used a Drake and Curtis pic for comparison. It disturbs my soul on so many levels :lol

S curl texturizer. Follow the directions on the back and don't leave it in for too long. I don't use it, but I know folks that do. Mixed genetics ftw.

Good luck.

Just get some of this or anything really with petroleum in it will make you curl up. Drake's hair really just looks like he's wolfing so just continue to do whatever you are doing now for waves but letting your hair grow past wave length and brush, although he is obviously mixed so he maybe gets that way easier. Luster's pink will work too. Just go in the black hair care aisle of Wal Mart and buy anything really. I wouldn't go with an S curl though

Can confirm, I've had 360 waves since the 6th grade and since about 8th I don't even need to put anything in my hair, it'll just grow in a wavy pattern lol. Still use moisturizer daily though.

Regardless, this is exactly what happened when my barber went to jail and I grew my hair out.. Was curly as hell.

I also agree, don't put chemicals in your head man.

Soooo...you want to put chemicals in your hair and poison yourself just so you can look like you have Caucasian in you?? Are you unhappy with yourself my guy?

I don't know why all these young black brothers out here can't embrace their roots. WE ARE BLACK MEN FROM AFRICA!!! Learn your roots before you damage them...literally. All that chemical ain't gonna do nothing but negativity for you, god. You gotta stay true to yourself. Don't ever believe that "good hair/bad hair" **** my G. We were once BLACK KINGS IN AFRICA. You think we use to relax out hair then? HELL NO. Kings don't stoop down to the level of peasants. Changing your natural make-up is peasant ****. Everyone putting chemicals in their hair and bleaching their skin is a peasant. God is manifested in you, B. God made you in his image son, embrace that.

If you think doing this is gonna get you girls. It won't. And if it does, it's gonna get you a shallow *** that is on the same peasant **** tHat I'm speaking on.

I'm just saying yo, embrace them naps. If you don't like it, get a caeser and some waves. Don't chemically alter yourself to look like you have some other ethnicity in you. Embrace your culture..embrace your roots. Embrace AFRICA

Hello there, young black male who wants his hair to be this texture:

drake.jpg

Hair is currently grown out in an afro to about 3.25 inches high, give or take in some areas, tapered/temped up on the sides

It's nappy as ****, and tape ups never last past when I go to sleep

I want it to be the texture in the picture

What products can I use to make my hair appear like the first picture?

Will rep those who help.

CAROL'S DAUGHTER "Healthy Hair Butter"

No Chemicals... just this Butter.

ALL DAY, bruh.

I don't know whether to take this serious or not but you hair is probably already curly unless it's straight.Stay away from chemicals is you can and stick to whatever works because when you start to use chemicals of any type it changes your hair and in some cases you will need to continue to use those chemicals to get those same results and to get rid of it is hard as hell to do.

Put some Sweet Jamila in ya hair and Do the sponge method fam.

It's on YouTube

You can't really change your hair texture to look like Drakes unless you use a texturizer, but even then it will probably come out looking like that pic of 50. What you should do is a hot oil treatment then wash it out with natural shampoo/conditioner. Comb it out a little bit (just detangling) and while it's still wet put some natural curling products that others have mentioned in this thread. I can vouch for the Kinky Curly line and Shae Moisture curl milk but that's it. Just remember that everyone's hair doesn't respond the same way to products so you might go through a few different ones to find your desired result. One of the most important things is to not pick your hair out into an afro. After washing it just detangle it in the shower and let it air dry a little then put some product in.

LOL! Look, I'm 1000% Against Chemical Texturizers... that stuff isn't meant for your Hair and it's just Lame to do. You're trying too hard at that point.

But NATURAL Butters & Oils to enhance your Natural Curly Hair... that's 100% A-OKAY.

People have been doing it since the beginning of time... IN AFRICA.

And don't let no Sucka tell you different.

Yep, I've changed my ways since my post in this thread. I just put straight organic Coconut oil in my hair now, or the avocado oil (has a weird smell to it) and Jamaican Black Castor Oil at night. I revamped my whole cosmetic routine, got rid of everything with ingredients, no more sulfate, silicon, parabens, alcohols, petrolatum, etc. JBCO shampoo, shea butter brand conditioner is just straight essential oils, switched to African black soap, only thing I haven't found yet is a good enough natural deodorant. I care about the natural thing and the environment and even supporting the motherland with the brands I select, but I can't be walking around with pit stains

Hit the Bay, bro. Should be able to find the 8 oz. joints for under $14 pretty easy. And that's w/ shipping.

And a little goes a long way with this Butter, so you'll be good for a minute.

Not Murray's "lifetime supply in one jar" good, but still... Lol

Got this joint coming in, any day now...

And about to hit Walgreens and see what this is hitting like...

Heard good things from a few Pretty & Natural Yambs when I looked up reviews...

If you ever find a good natural deodorant let a ***** know what it is... Been looking for one for years tbh.
