adidas TS Commander Review

yea...to be honest i cant remember the last time i was so excited about a pair of shoes. i haven't really been sold on the designs of shoes lately and if ihave been, they performed terribly.
hopefully these don't let me down, but based on a few reviews i have read, i don't think they will.

oh and trust that if i miss delivery that i will be driving to the ups office to pick them up lol....i order alot of stuff so i know that ups usually deliversto my house after 5 p.m. so i purposely
scheduled myself to get off at 4 on thursday, which is when they are scheduled to arrive. and just in case they come early or late i did the same for wednesdayand friday.

i love being the schedule maker...i also generously gave myself a 5 day vacation that starts christmas eve lol.

Trying three times to get a tracking number just made me laugh. I meant that in a good way. I remember being that way about some shoes. Waiting by the mailbox to get them. Missing delivery, and driving 30 miles to the FedEx office to get them instead of waiting a day (Air Jordan XI concord retro). It just takes me back.

Datz, I am in DFW, and some Ross stores around here got some Tai Chi's in various sizes. Coming in at 24.99. I remember you asking about them a few months ago.
Yea I remember you tried to find me some but no dice. Thanx anyways though.

If you ever get down to DFW, let me know. I will get you in at UTA to play some if youy want.

oh snap! What days do yall hoop. I might take you up on that sometime this holiday. I need to come down there and shop anyways, got my sister's Aveo forthe time being which doesn't use ANY gas, would be fun. I'm trying to go down there, and come back with a scholarship. I'm tired of the dudes Ihoop with now

Pretty much every day. Of course, Fridays are slow, but Tues.-Thurs. are usually crowded. Holidays got it a little slow too, about 20 there yesterday. Weususally start up about 5, run full-court to 15 straight up by 2's and 1's. You have to have a student get you in, so if you come down PM me and I willget you in. I think it is $5 for a day pass.

i said i would do a follow up review after a couple times playing in these, so here it is.

sizing: i went into finish line and measured a size 13.5 (my normal size). i saw that these didn't come in size 13.5 so i ordered a 13 because i knew thata 14 would be too big. well after getting the 13, they fit about a half size big because these did not feel small at all. as a matter of fact, i have about thesame amount of space in them as the 13.5s i have in the jordan esternos and nike hyperdunks. duke said he went true to size, but i went a half size down andhad plenty of room to spare.

ankle support: the commanders have an awesome balance of ankle support and flexibility. they dont lace up incredibly high, but my ankle felt like it wassecured in place even without using the strap. once i fastened down the strap, the ankle support on these provide top notch lockdown. the stripes on theoutside really hug your foot to give a secure feeling. nothing fancy, an old school style strap, well placed eyelets, and a good fit all help with thestability of this shoe.

traction: while adidas is famous for poor traction, they went with the tried and true modified herringbone pattern on these, much like what you see on mostnike shoes that makes their traction so good. i played indoors on a dusty court the first time i played in these and outdoors the second time i played inthese, and both times these didn't let me down. i have yet to slip or lose footing, so i'm definitely impressed with adidas implementation of theherringbone, a softer rubber, and a deeper cut traction pattern that help make this shoe grip the court as well as it does.

support: as duke previously said, the insoles are flat, but the midsole has good support built-in so the insole doesnt have to pick up the slack.

cushioning: this shoe implements the select system where you choose between a PU midsole that is very soft and an adiprene insole that is much thicker anddenser. i initially liked the PU insole but i gave the adiprene one a shot just to see how they were. after playing in the adiprene one my legs felt beat up asif the cushioning was way too firm for my body. then i switched to the PU insole and immediately noticed a much softer, more plush ride. it was crazy to me howmuch different the shoe feels when you change the insoles. the midsole has cutouts under the heel and forefoot to help disperse the impact throughout a largerarea of the foot and protect the heel and forefoot which often take a beating because of a lack of fat to protect the bone and reduce shock.

another noteworthy aspect of this shoe is the transition. i was initially scared because of the entire upper being patent leather (i have the all black teamcolor). i knew that if the transition on these was anything less than spectactular i would have weeks of patent leather folding into my foot and nasty creasesin the shoe. the shoes creased a little on the inside when i walked around in them, then when i played that small amount was all they creased. the transitionheel to toe is amazing. the shoe fits so well and the transition is so smooth it feels as though your the shoe is an extension of your foot, making this shoe apleasure to play in. after two extended playing sessions, the shoe looks brand new with only the tiny crease on the inside of the shoe i made when walkingaround in them.

all in all im extremely pleased with these performance wise. there is nothing fancy about this shoe at all. it has a great fit, transition, an old school stylestrap that works well, and standard traction pattern that is known to work. if you are looking for a performance shoe with no gimmicks and just does the jobits supposed to do, these are an excellent choice.

Hey, mt, I am glad you liked them I wondered this weekend if you put the Zoom insoles in or stayed with one of the Select ones. I guess the adiprene one workedfor me, being a bigger guy for my size, but I did feel the fit was better with the PU one. I saw the Gil lows (blk suede) yesterday and will probably pick themup next month.

i stayed with the insoles that come in the shoes..im not exactly small but ive had a couple knee injuries that become aggravated if the ride is too firm.

great review guys saw these at footlocker and wanted to do my research on the shoe imma look into gettin a pair now or i might just wait a bit when the pricegoes down.

If I'm heavy for my weight, about 6ft 200 and jump high and a lot tending to bottom out my cushioning faster than normal, which do I get, Commanders orCreators?

commanders.

There's a new commander bounce, I just noticed on Eastbay. Any idea how those are?

^^^i tried them on and i really love the way the heel feels, but theres a big dropoff in the level of cushioning in the forefoot.

After reading these positive reviews I copped a pair of Commanders. To my surprise, I was extremely disappointed. Maybe it just isn't meant to be, butafter about 6 hours of play in these things I can't find much I really like about them. My knees ache after playing a session as well. I tried bothinsoles, the Adiprene one was really bad imo. The lace placement hurts my upper foot. The forefoot feels absolutely dead to me and I think is what hurts myknees the most. I went a half size down to an 11 after trying them on in person, and while playing I still feel some movement inside the shoe but if I wentdown to a 10.5 my toes would be uncomfortable. That might be a better option than this fit though. It just feels much too wide to me. My ankles feel stableenough with the strap, but not much more secure than in the Creators (which I also have and LOVE). They are very light for a "Big Man" shoe, and havea ton of glowing reviews from satisfied ballers, so maybe I just got a lemon or it just doesn't fit with my foot. I dunno. For the last 3-4 years I haveplayed in nothing but Lebron II's and love them, but they are getting harder to find and are very expensive so I decided to try out some new kicks. As Isaid earlier, I love the Creators and just ordered the Lightning Creators because I was so pleased with them. I left a comment in that thread as well.

For the record I am 25, 6'3 185 lb SF w/ bad knees, ankles, back

hey prestige...ive been wearing lebron IIs for the past 3 yrs and theyre the best ive ever worn. i was thinking about creators or commanders. im a size 11.5in lebron II, 10.5 in kobe II, and usually 11 with everything else. what size should i get in a creator or commander?

I'm an 11.5 in Lebron II's as well...

Creator - 11

Commander - 10.5

But like I said, I'd get the Creator. Especially if you are use to playing in Lebron II's. The ride is very similar to me, albeit the anklesupport in the Lebrons is better but also a lot bulkier. The Commander just doesn't do it for me.

the difference between the commander and creator is day and night. If you like one you will not like the other.
Basically Commander= PF and C, Creator= PG, SG, SF.
There may be some exceptions, but this is the general rule.

Well damn...I just ordered the commanders just because they had my size in the patent red. I guess I'll see how I like them. Hopefully they work for mecuz they look clean as hell.

The commanders have worked well for me for a good while now. They are now my outdoor shoes. I must say though, I enjoy wearing my 2k8's that I use forindoors now more than I did the commanders.

they're complete opposites. I think you would've liked the creator more.
