Why? Clearly the ball was wedged...

I will comment, but please try to ignore that I am a Giants fan. I have coached baseball at a very high level so I am offering my perspective....

Was the ball wedged? Most likely yes. But once a fielders arms get thrown up, it is the umpires responsibility to run out there to verify. We have seen this many times in the past. That didnt happen. The umpires never attempted to run out there.

Once the centerfielder grabbed the ball and threw it in, that should have completely nullified the ball being "stuck."

Just my two cents as a coach.

It was near immediately called a dead ball by the ump(s) per Davis. Otherwise Dean wouldn't have touched it.

The umpires calling it dead immediately is part of the problem IMO. Not running out to verify it was stuck in a World Series game? Making that call from 200 feet away? That was part of the larger problem.

Totally get that criticism, it's been done like that in the past many times. However they did review it after this for attempted good measure, so it is what it is. Just a freak play that we'll talk about for years to come.

The biggest piss off for me was the Clement AB. First pitch swinging (a ****** pitch at that) vs a reliever that just came in and the tying runs in scoring position. Got damn man, take a pitch or two...

Between this series and the NLCS I never want to hear “Seven Nation Army” again :lol
