the Rangers are quietly looking like they're going to be this years team that struggles to figure it out the first 5 months of the season but manages to hang around due to all the extra playoff spots and end up being a tough October matchup if they get in.
I get why all the extra playoff spots exist from a money perspective as more postseason games = good for business. But the extra playoff spots pretty much reward this get hot late approach and make the 162 game regular season mean way less and it almost kinda feels like your veteran teams treat it that way. Especially when you consider that home field advantage historically really doesn't hold much weight in the playoffs and October upsets feel like theyre a pretty regular thing every postseason
