The Cubs have retired only five numbers in their club's history. Maddux and Ferguson Jenkins shared a number. Then there's Ernie (obviously) and Billy Williams. Ron Santo and Ryne Sandberg are the other two. Here's the crazy thing: both were from Washington state. Santo went to Franklin High School in Seattle, the alma mater of Kenny G, Aaron Brooks, Corey Dillon, etc. Ryne is from Spokane, and signed a LOI to play QB for Washington State. But, he got drafted and signed a pro baseball contract instead.
