Fair as long as it rolls before the first base bag, if it passes the bag it is foul.

he did answer it. if it rolls back fair prior to reaching the bag, it's a fair ball

think about bunts. that's why the fielders sometimes wait for it roll out and then quickly grab it once it crosses the foul line before it rolls back into fair territory
