This is his first NBA game. This is different. If you wanna judge him based off his play in the JBA then your analysis is 100% valid.

None of his previous coaches have required him to apply himself on D. That stops now, if he doesn’t commit to it, he’s not gonna be around too long. There’s incentive for him to put in the effort in defense because it’s clear that he’s not starting unless somebody gets hurt.
I think a lot of the criticism he gets comes from the crowd who is unwilling to forgive that his father is a an affront to their sensibilities. That’s lame af and people need to get over that. Dad of the year manifested this. Y’all gonna remain upset?

I think he's actually going to be solid on d eventually. Maybe even good.
He's got the stuff you can't teach, instincts and size.
