How different would the football landscape be if Saban had gotten Brees in Miami like he wanted?

good question, these questions are fun-er with basektball 'what ifs' like what if orlando kept webber and shaq togther, for example

but i'd like to hope the AFC east would at least have been competitive and not just a cake walk for the pats

It was the right call, given the rules. He may be trying to go to the side, but he clearly lands on him.

yea.. maybe i'm not understanding the rule.. but i take it to mean whoever on the defense sacks the QB, they basically cant do a form tackle where you drive down into the ground

so cant do this:

Seeing that last night, I couldn’t even complain about that call. Even when we went through the whole “we’re due calls” time:lol

Basically.

yea.. i assume once an effort is made to kinda not drive the QB down, you're ok.. otherwise for any QB with decent mobility, theyll be breaking arm tackles left and right.. unless refs just blow things dead whenever dudes get anywehre near close, which might happen

and basically what happened on the matt ryan play above where dude got fined $20 grand

They should start spearing them in the ****. They'll drop with the quickness and you don't even need to follow through with the tackle.

...until that inevitably becomes a rule.

Part of me thinks he would still bail before being able to bear the fruits of Brees' arm.

I don't know...In 2006, the season immediately following his injury and his first in NO, he threw for well over 4,000 yards. The Dolphins that season had Ronnie Brown, who could catch the football out of the backfield, but mostly, they had Chris Chambers, Marty Booker the big Randy McMichael at TE and Wes Welker. I think Brees does damage with that team and does Wes even go to NE at that point? I don't know.

Yeah that may have been enough to keep him there and I gotta think Brees career trajectory remains similar? I dont even know who was the OC at that time. Saban seemed to have checked out early thogh too and was plotting the Bama move as soon as Shula was fired

It could have been that when Saban was overruled on the Brees/Culpepper decision, he began checking out. I don't know.

Yeah, that sounds right, IATT IATT
