So sad... RIP to Tony Gwynn.

One of his most cherished possessions was a Ted Williams book on hitting. Seeing the two of them at the All-Star game a few years back was one of my best memories in the sport. He was one of the most classy guys on/off the field.

Late to the thread, but R.I.P. to one of the greats in Tony Gwynn.

Such a well spoken, caring man for the game and outside of the field. I can't say I saw much of him play due to my age, but I know he was one of the guys in his prime (and full career) to play the game clean, and that you have to admire him for to put up the absurd stats that he did.

Crazy stat that a friend of mine told me that I couldn't believe until I read it:

In 1995, Gwynn struck out only 15 times in 535 at-bats. That's insane. As Aceball Stats points out, 27 current MLB players have already struck out than more than 15 times in June.
