Joe Mauer's 5.3 WAR is #1 among catchers in MLB (and AL, if you were wondering). Next highest catcher is Houston's Jason Castro at 3.3.

Don't take this as me saying he's not that good JPZ but Baseball Reference/ESPN WAR is a little flawed. He's best in the AL but a smidge behind Yadi.

Catcher WAR is funky because they still haven't really figured out a way to capture the defensive worth of catchers.

You even gotta look at Buster Posey a bit, but of all of them I'd still take Mauer (surprise, right?). Never played on a playoff team with good pitching while in his prime... something you can't have postseason success without.

For sure. They're both pretty decently (?) ahead of everyone else right now. Dig into the leaderboards, Martin has been almost as valuable as Posey this year

I've always loved Mauer, you remember I never wanted him to extend with you guys. Wanted him to replace Jorge. Sucks he's on the concussion list now.
