MLB approved that dumb intentional walk rule :{ :{

Sources: MLB, union agree to use dugout signal for intentional walk

As part of its initiative to improve pace-of-game play, Major League Baseball has approved a change to the intentional walk rule, going from the traditional four-pitch walk to a dugout signal, team and union sources told ESPN's Howard Bryant.

Getting rid of the old-fashioned intentional walk would eliminate about a minute of dead time per walk. In an age in which intentional walks actually have been declining -- there were just 932 all last season (or one every 2.6 games) -- that time savings would be minimal. But MLB saw the practice of lobbing four meaningless pitches as antiquated.

Disagree with the IBB rule.

Scenario: Bottom of the 9th. Runner on 3rd, 1 out. IBB automatically puts the batter at 1st. Double play is now in effect. Under the old rule a wild pitch or pass ball could potentially happen that would allow the runner at 3rd to score. Now the runner at 3rd has to stay and if the DP happens the game is then extended into extras.

The unexpected never happens so who cares. And you can't get rid of commercials that what pays the league.

I don't like the rule. IBBs don't even take that long IMO. To me the game is meant to be slow lazy and relaxed compared to other sports. It's fine

The idea that throwing 4 intentional balls being taxing on a pitchers arm is silly.

The idea that eliminating intentional walks, when they happen so infrequently, will somehow speed up the game is silly.

Michael Kay went off at the top of his show this afternoon :lol he's on the "they should have kept it" side.

What's crazier to me is that those 4 IBB lobs were counted in the pitch count :lol .

Thats like counting the balls that the pitcher throws back to the catcher to throw away :lol

What if you get a hit off it tho? Guess you got to count it against the pitch count. :lol
