LOL A's! Glad to see the Cubbies making some solid moves hopefully they can get out of the cellar soon. Some of my fondest memories growing up was coming home from school and catching tbe last few innings of the Cubs game on WGN when Sosa was out there smashing bombs haha.

Theo is building something... and he did build the team that ended the Red Sox "curse" aka drought.

If Brian Sabean could bumble his way into three championships in five years, anything is possible.

You know alot of Red Sox fans give Theo little to zero credit for those WS. Many of them claim the team was built before Theo got there.

Some of mine too :hat

So Lester signed with the Cubs for 6 years?  Well, it'll be 112 years since they won a championship when his contract expires

It will be hard to cool down some of the expectations, but Theo isn't done until next year. He still has a target in mind for either July, or next offseason in Zimmerman, Cueto, Price, Shark, Porcello, Fister, or Latos. Maybe even Hamels if the Phillies lower their demands.

If/when he gets one more ace, and has that guy + Lester + Arrieta, on top of our lineup, then people can start to see the final plan. Right now, 2015, it won't be quite ready yet. Just the beginning stages of it.

But at the very least now, pulling Lester opens eyes around the league with other FA's. If they can get anywhere near 85+ wins this year, sniff the hunt in September at least, should help them in next offseason get those final 1-2 pieces to push the roster up over the top.

2016 is the year we go for it. Not 2015, not yet. Patience still required. But at least now we can start the clock. :smokin

Lester getting $155 million just opened the floodgates for Boras to demand in the neighborhood of $190-200+ million for Scherzer

^ Not to mention the new facilities they're building for the players and the renovations to Wrigley are a big draw. JZ/Fister aren't being moved during July, it's either now, re-sign one of them, or take the draft pick.

I wonder how the Nats will approach re-signing Zimm this week now that Lester has set the market. I'd offer him a 7yrs/$160M deal, take it or leave it. If he takes it, excellent. If not, keep him in the rotation for '15, re-sign Fister, collect the draft pick and sign one of the plethora of arms that'll be available in 2016. Hisashi Iwakuma would be a great fit in D.C., as he could be used as a stop gap until Lucas Giolito is ready for the big leagues.

Like he wasn't already doing that before

True, but anything less is getting a dial tone from him now.  And, personally, as good as Scherzer is, maybe because I'm a Mets/Red Sox fan, I don't think he's as good as is made out to be.  He's good, top 10 easily in pitchers, but I just don't know.  Just my opinion

i don't see scherz being worth 200 million. then again I'm clearly out of touch with this salary logic.

Also the television contract they are working on will be a big influx of cash as well.

Theo has transformed every damn thing we've ever done, in 3+ years. It's amazing.

Wrigley, to TV, rid the terrible deals, stocked the system, International work, Draft, Maddon, Bosio, and now he can start building. Just surreal right now. No Cub GM ever did half this ****.

Theo deserves a movie, best-selling autobiography, 30 for 30, etc. if he's able to put together a championship club in the Cubs after everything he did for Boston too.

Cubbies are looking good.

I agree. For the money Scherzer is likely to get, I'd rather have Lester of the two. I don't know what it is, but something about Scherzer makes him less of a sure bet than Lester IMO.

Lester was pretty much never going back to Boston. He felt disrespected when they made him a 70 mil offer. **** has been sour since.

You will be missed Rollins appreciate everything but your time was up with us, shoulda never signed you to that 3 year deal

jimmy gonna flourish in Hollywood.

LA is so much more fitting for him than the dump known as philly.

Hamels was rumored, but I'm sure the price was absurd.

Don't mind Rollins, we need a SS for one maybe two seasons before the job is handed over to the other Saeger brother.
