Florida Gators freshman backup quarterback Treon Harris in under investigation after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female student on campus early Sunday morning, the school announced Monday.
The University of Florida Police Department and the Gainesville Police Department are working together to assist with the collection and analysis of forensic evidence, according to the school statement.
Harris has been suspended indefinitely for all team activities.
"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," UF president Bernie Machen said in a statement. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."
Multiple media outlets reported that the team would be told of the incident during Monday's practice.
Harris, who had relieved struggling starter Jeff Driskel near the end of the third quarter of Saturday's game at Tennessee, rallied the Gators to a 10-9 victory against the Volunteers.
Florida coach Will Muschamp postponed his news conference Monday, and Harris, from Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, had his Twitter page taken down.
...
Dudes gonna never learn about messing with these white girls.
Could be right. I rushed to judgment, but we'll see what comes out. Classic "he said, she said" statement made me automatically assume the scenario. I can admit that it was the wrong thing to do.
...
Or maybe dudes should just stop putting themselves in positions to get caught up period. You don't even know the race of the girl yet, let alone any other details and you're assuming it's a Caucasian chick crying wolf?
Shocking fact: A lot of the time dudes are accused of sexual battery, it's because they actually did something wrong.
Post-Jameis, Ray Rice, etc. School is going to protect their *** #1. Not about backing him right now.Sounds like they're not backing Treon at all with that "We have no tolerance..." comment
Always difficult it being a he said she said thing right now. Just hope he didn't do anything stupid to throw away his future.Could be right. I rushed to judgment, but we'll see what comes out. Thats the truth. Especially your last point.
