2015-2016 San Antonio Spurs Thread: Tim Duncan Retires After 19 Seasons

It's time to start talking about starting Jonathon Simmons over Danny Green

It's time to start talking about starting Jonathon Simmons over Danny Green

I agree, but do you think that would discourage Danny Green or help him get out of his current slump?
I think it would encourage him and help his play. Pop got a hall of Fame player to come off the bench with no complaints, he could figure this one out..

Simmons is miles ahead of Green in terms of athleticism - getting to the hole etc.

BUT - Green is miles ahead of Simmons in terms of understanding the system, rotations, positioning.  I'd still start Green and inject Simmons for some offensive firepower, especially when Kawhi is tired.  I still have faith in Green and i'm sure as hell Pop does as well.

Green is an elite defender, along with TD and Kawhi, 3 out of 5 spots is scary.  We're #1 ranked in defense.  LMA will also begin to alter shots and TP9 marked Teague out of the game Yesterday. We're looking good on defense. Mind you we've still got David West and Mills' hustle plays too!

We're heading in the right direction fellas - If we can get around 60+ wins, we're good for a 1-2 finish in the West.

Random fact - heard that Boban has 6% body fat :eek

How do you guys feel about the Spurs signing Andre Miller?

I'm not familiar with his play; does he play tough defense?

Did we sign him to invigorate the bench?

Great signing, great basketball IQ. Solid pick for coming off the bench

Hope we sign Kevin Martin

What a season the Spurs are having - a lot of people were saying that LMA could fail here.. but it's quite the opposite.  His second outing against OKC was night and day.

Tim Duncan although has been quiet will be vital in the playoffs.  He will be key.

TP9 is still struggling for consistency, I get that Kawhi and LMA are really balling, but every team needs a PG and every great team needs an engine, at 33 he is still that engine.  He will be crucial for our chances in the Playoffs this season.  Miller will be insurance and Ginobili/Mills aren't exactly engines.

Pop needs to integrate Martin very quickly if we're going to use him, he's the Belinelli replacement we need.  Great shooter, average defender.  He's going to need to learn the system quick and score a bunch quick.

I think mathematically, the worst we can do is 4th spot.  I highly doubt we'll catch GSW for the first spot, but we definitely won't hit 3rd either (something like 12 games ahead of OKC/Clippers).

With LMA and Kawhi gelling quite nicely I think we're about to peak at the right time and the most crucial time.  Expect Pop to continue to limit minutes to the starters even against the GSW/OKC/Clips - chasing a 70 win record isn't a priority.  But integrating the new comers, building the 2nd unit and extensive analysis will be for the last stretch.

It's going to be treat to watch the last games of the regular season and it'll be interesting to see what Pop does.

The Spurs have improved IMMENSELY since their last game against GSW.  Results won't matter as Pop said - "win or lose, all that matter is you improve" [SIC].  Fortunately we're in a position where we don't need to chase games for an ideal playoff spot.

67-15 ain't bad at all.. 6 more loses than GSW.

Considering LMA is 90% incorporated and integrated into our system as well as David West.

I think we'll definitely sweep Memphis and overcome OKC in 6 (Durant and Westbrook can be contained).  GSW is a sure bet to get to the WCF.

Biggish issue is LMA's dislocated finger, it's obvious its bugging him and affecting his mentality.  He'll need to get used to it being strapped as it won't necessarily disappear over the next month.

What are your thoughts on the post-season for San Antonio?

I think the WCF is a foregone conclusion. The real issue is what we do with Golden State. I know we can beat them, and dont see any reason why we wont. It will just be extremely difficult.

LMA needs to nurse the finger, I wouldnt mind it if he sat out a bit of the first round, he could use the rest.

Patty Mills needs to take the lions share of these minutes, same goes for Kevin Martin

Shout out to Kawhi, bringing home the DpoY trophy. The second of many more.

Now that we have moved on into the 2nd round, is anyone else here worried about the OKC Thunder?

I'm expecting a tough 6-7 game series.

Today was an example of how well the Spurs can play when everything is going their way.  No one can beat them on their day.

LMA was unconcious, Kawhi dominated.  TP9/Manu had ZERO turnovers.  DG back to his 12/13 finals shooting percentage.  Patty Mills just couldn't find it today so TP9 was playing extended minutes.  That's all good, we know what he's capable of and will bounce back game 2.

Spurs won't shoot that good, but will shoot above average.  LMA really exposed Ibaka's on-ball defense, almost how Draymond Green kind of exposed LMA during the first GSW outing.  I expect next game to be the same offensively, pounding it inside to LMA.

How good was the defensive switches? Kawhi started on Westbrook, DG on Durant, then they'd switch it up.  SLOWMO rejecting Westbrook and guarding Durant.  Even coming out of the game for DG due to matchups and not a single complaint.  What a time to be alive.

40 million for an elite defender and statistically great shooter... his worth is showing.  Such an important signing.

The key here onwards is mentality.  Durant and Westbrook will come back firing and the first game at OKC will be a completely different vibe.  Spurs need to forget about this game and focus on the next because OKC will sure as hell make adjustments.

I read somewhere that the game plan was to force Durant and Westbrook into hero ball  - let's see how this plays out in game 2.

I expect the Spurs to win the next game (don't care if it's in 3OT or by 1 point) - OKC are a great team.  If the Spurs can steal a game at OKC then we're in good shape.

No doubt we're in great shape, but again only game 1 against a great team.

Interesting things happening so far this offseason.

Manu and West opt out of their contracts.

I don't know how I'm going to feel going to a game next season and not seeing Tim get announced in the starting line up :(
