I'll give Okafor a pass, not because he's young, but because we've all made mistakes.
God knows I've done lots of stupid **** when I was drunk, and I was older than Okafor.
However, we need to learn from our mistakes too. So we'll have to wait and see if he does.
Agree with this generally. But I also don't think you can compare a number 3 pick in the NBA draft who is making millions of dollars to the average 19 year old. That guy has much more at stake than most dumb-*** college kids. He has a limited window of time to get the most out of his abilities. Provides extra incentive to have things under control. And I'm not saying he shouldn't go out and enjoy himself sometimes - he should - but there's a way to do that without getting in trouble and putting yourself at risk. He needs to figure that out. Getting a better support system around himself would probably help.
Writing the kid off already definitely would be an overreaction, but acting like there's no cause for concern is also a mistake, IMO. He probably will be fine, but he probably needs to rethink some of his behaviors to get there.
