It's common sense. You don't turn down that much guaranteed money in return for a ring that you still may not win regardless of where you play.
Besides, Rings are not everything despite what these sportscasters, columnist, and fans will lead you to believe. There's more to it than that. Winning is important, sure. But the OD emphasis on it in recent years has a lot to do with one's "legacy," which is good for television, good for the casual sports fan, etc. Makes the sport a bit more romanticized. As with most people in all walks of life, we want our lives to be much more simple that it is. If A player doesn't win a ring = He isn't a winner, he only cares about the money etc., this type of thinking makes it really easy to generalize star players in the NBA.
Point being, this decision has nothing to do with Melo's priorities and more to do with him being smart, and logical about his life.

You just don't pass up that much money for the "chance" of a championship unless you are going to play with Lebron or Kevin Durant. That's not Melo being selfish and it has nothing to do with his priorities.

I'm big on having a system (triangle) where each player knows their role. Big IF, but if Fisher gets these guys to believe and we start playing competively again with the money we have next year we have to get much better. Only team I worried about are the cavs and a healthy bulls.
