Out of nowhere?

The kid that led his college team to a title as a freshman, was the #1 pick that the league gave to the Hornets after they nixed the CP3 deal, and put up a PER over 26 at the age of 21, in his second year, and is already one of thee best defensive players in the league, while still improving on Offense after already putting up 21-10 a night yet not even scratching the surface of where he's headed.

From no where?

But the Pelicans are a very mediocre team.

I understand AD isn't some no name who came into the scene out of "no where". He has a history of notoriety and fame. What I'm trying to say is that, yes, his numbers are improving and he's shown great signs as a basketball player.

But his team only won 34 games last season. Last time I checked, you're only as good as your team. Isn't that the kind of slander Love had to deal with all these years? Or is AD not applicable for this? Until he gets his team playing better and puts up numbers consistently, I'm not sold he's a top 3 player in the NBA.

Maybe in 3-5 years this is more of a reasonable possibility.
This!

^ blame management.. they've made some pretty terrible moves.. and those terrible moves have kinda tied the hands of the team

At the end of the NBA, the NBA did not care about whether the sterlings were racist or not. If that were the case, they wouldn't have been able to buy into the NBA in the first place.

It was all about who was hurting the NBA image. Donald Sterling was hurting the image not Shell, which is why they don't care about Shell still having stake in the team when she should actually be forced to leave too.

Agreed...to an extent. His team has been hurt and inept since he's been there though which does play a part.

Thankfully, I don't go along with your ridiculous logic tho. Nor do many others.

I didn't know a players team had to be playoff worthy for a player to be great. News to me.

See, this is what I mean!

It's easy to make excuses for AD, but no one made any for Love when he was with the Timberwolves all those years.

I guess this is just how NT rolls. You guys are selective with who you can and cannot cut a break for.

Like I said before, until AD puts up good numbers on a consistent basis and has his team playing better and holds everyone accountable--he's not a top 3 NBA player.

The team doesn't have to be playoff worthy, but at least they have to be playing competitive basketball. The Pelicans won 34 games last year! Only 3 other teams in the West won less than they did.

And why does it have to get personal with me and my logic? Let me guess, that's a justification you have for saying what you want and "prove" I'm wrong?

Jeez, some of you guys seriously need to learn how to properly have a debate.

Shelly gets Rings if a Clippers win? Too funny.

And AD can't be a top 5 player if Love can't be a too 5 player.
Same rules apply.

Donald Sterling set himself up fam
Shelly came in and catfished him
Like what my homie Chris said "These **** ain't loyal"

No one is getting personal with your "logic" I simply said I don't follow your logic. And that it's ridiculous.

Look at this list. Top 10 in the NBA based on PER, including Lopez who only played 17 games and NONE of these guys play better defense than AD.

Note the lower usage rate, the lower minutes than the guys ahead of him, etc. Yet, there he is. At age 20, turned 21 in March.

And the team sat him 7-8 times in the final couple weeks to avoid uneeded wear and tear in a season they weren't going to win anyways, with multiple other injuries on the roster.

But again, as you said, his team didn't succeed, so that means that HE isn't one of the 5 best the NBA has. :lol

I mean we did have a lot of injuries, play in the toughest division I am the NBA, I can't say we are that mediocre. Just haven't reach our potential

But I don't think AD is a top 3 player. My reasoning though has very little to do with team success though.

I feel like AD could stand to improve more as an on ball defender, especially in the post, and could stand to develop a more efficient offensive game as most of his production still comes off of lobs, or the occasional jumpshot. That being said though, what he does on the floor right now, can't be denied which is why i'm so high on him. (But not top 3 high. There are just players right now who are simply better than him. May not be that way very soon, but as of right now they are. AD has to stay on the floor more, and his lack of team success has to factor in when you talk about top 3. That's just too high of a mention to ignore the lack of success his teams have had.)

Kevin Love broke my rule of thumb for playing on bad teams which is why I'm so high on him. (But again, not top 3 high. Team success does have to factor in at some point) When you put up 26 13 and 4 that breaks my rule of "empty stats." Essentially, if you play on a bad team, you have to put up borderline incredible numbers for me to say that it isn't just a product of you being on a bad team and K Love emphatically did that. AD as well.

But BG > both.

With the top-5 discussion, after Bron and Durant, some combo of Russy, Davis, CP3 makes the most sense.

Davis will show he's top 5 this season.

I think the 3/5 range is pretty interchangeable but Westbrook n Davis deserve spots.

It's safe to say Doc Rivers isn't going anywhere. Just read a quote from him.

A serious question here. Has there ever been a player considered for Top 3 player, in any NBA season, and his team have a losing record that season?
