2013 NY JETS OFF-SEASON THREAD 8-8 ..12 Picks ...

Revis is going to screw himself over in the long run with that mindset though.

How much of his current contract is guaranteed?

All those holdouts are going to come back to bite him in the later years of his career, especially with the injury. Teams are going to be reluctant to deal with him due to his holdout track record when he's not as productive.

Actually this 1st yr is guaranteed other than that he can opt out I believe...his an idiot even if we kept him wed be doing the same dog and pony show come this off season..good riddance

Any chance Richard Sherman hits the FA market? They have a lot of guys to sign, but I doubt they'll let that stud walk.

Even though Revis body of work is better, Sherman just strikes me as a better all around leader, if he does happen to hit the market, Rex better be at his door step @ 12:01 with a bag of cash.

Wishful thinking but hey why not?

Richard Sherman is NOT leaving Seattle lol. They're locking him up, along with Earl and Kam. Browner will be available this off-season, most likely.

Heading into Week 11 of the NFL season the New York Jets stand at 5-4, which has the team in position to make a run at a playoff berth. Gang Green has been led by a ferocious defense along with a power running game that has taken the pressure off of rookie quarterback Geno Smith and the passing attack. Following the bye week the Jets offense could become more dynamic as the unit will be getting back three key players.

Top tight ends

The Jets played their last game against the Saints with their third and fourth string tight ends as Kellen Winslow was serving out the remainder of his suspension and Jeff Cumberland was dealing with the aftermath of a concussion. Both Winslow and Cumberland are expected to return this week against the Buffalo Bills which will allow the offensive coordinator, Marty Mornhinweg, to expand his playbook.

Winslow is a reliable target that can serve as a safety valve for Geno Smith. The University Miami alum runs crisp routes and has shown the ability and toughness to get yards after the catch. Jeff Cumberland has made some big plays within the Jets offense as he has the size and speed to beat linebackers and safeties. The return of these two playmakers will provide Gang Green with a threat in the middle of the field and will free up big plays on the outside and down the field.

Santonio returns

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes is scheduled to return after the bye as the veteran has recovered from another leg injury. Holmes is the Jets best receiver and provides Geno Smith with a consistent set of hands and a presence that opposing defenses must account for. Santonio’s return will help offset the loss of Jeremy Kerley who suffered a serious elbow injury against the New Orleans Saints on November 3.

Full speed ahead

The return of the veterans mentioned above puts the Jets offense at just about full strength. Gang Green will have the ability to open up the passing game which will make the running game that much more effective. A diverse offense provides Geno Smith an abundance of options and will keep defenses off-balance. Now it will be up to the rookie quarterback to play within the system and limit his turnovers.

One game at a time

Coming off of a bye the Jets have had plenty of time to relish their victory over the Saints and to read all of their positive press clippings. Gang Green must now get back into their playbooks and embrace the “us against the world” mentality. The Jets cannot afford any letdowns on or off the field if they truly want to make a run for a playoff spot. The team is getting healthy at the right time. Now can New York put together a string of victories at the right time?

Hearing Stevie Johnson may not play next week :D .

That'll be awesome if Stevie doesn't play still will be a tough game gotta make it happen off the bye.

It sucks that Revis is about the $$$. He's not even playing in the type of system that makes him the best corner in the game. With us it was man on man coverage, with the Bucs it's more of a zone coverage, he's basically playing in space. I'm looking forward to the 2nd half of the season though. Let's keep proving the naysayers and doubters wrong.

Houston is reportedly releasing Ed Reed...

Who says no to him coming to NY?

Definitely can see it happening, however I think Reed is done.

would be terrible if he went to NE though

Jets don't need Reed. He's done. Even though Houston is 2-7, they have the #1 ranked Defense (which has me baffled) in the league and are #1 against the pass, Reed has absolutely NOTHING to do with those statistics.....

^That ranking is terribly skewed, and I hate when commentators bring that up. They're "#1", but I'm pretty sure they lead the league in giving up redzone TDs.

Yeah the '#1 defense' stat is very misleading, same with QBR and completion %. I'm waiting til the Jets play the phins (and sweep) before I go in there, a few guys were talking so much **** in the offseason. So far I'm loving how this season is playing out.

Most of my friends are Giants fans so I've been having fun this season

Aaaaaand with that, I get an alert on my phone saying he's about to sign with us. He might be done, but it's worth a shot. I say we sign Namdi too and roll the dice. Defense is already good, they'd be gravy if they pan out. Why can't we have an offense tho?

New York Jets ‏@nyjets 38s
We bolstered our secondary THURS, agreeing to terms with Ed Reed a day after the veteran S cleared waivers.

I'm all for this. The worst that happens is that he doesn't contribute and our secondary is back where it was.

Can't see us being worse with him on the field. Rex is about to get the last best out of Ed, watch :nerd: .

i don't think ed reed is done at all. he just didn't fit into that wack team

you jets fans are lucky to have him on the squad

I like the move, low risk high reward, dawan an Allen have been solid.

Rex will find a way to utilize reed
