OU doesn't impress Edwards
Among the first Under Armour All-Americans through the registration room Saturday, defensive end
Mario Edwards offered a newsy update on his recruiting.
Edwards -- No. 1 in the ESPNU150 out of Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, -- said he soured on Oklahoma after a mid-December visit.
"Talking to some of the [current OU] players, no one had a lot of positive things to say about OU," Edwards said. "It was more, like, negative."
Additionally, Edwards said, he wasn't thrilled with the "vibe" of Norman.
"It was a real small town with really no social life there," he said. "After football season, you want to be somewhere you can socialize and all that stuff."
Before the visit to OU, he made a trip to Texas. It went surprisingly well, said Edwards, whose high school teammate, linebacker
Alex De La Torre, is among the Longhorns' top-rated class of pledges.
"I thought [Austin] would be an old, country place," he said. "I went there and had a real nice time."
Edwards, committed to Florida State since March, plans a visit to Tallahassee on Jan. 14, he said, and a trip to LSU on Jan. 20.
He spoke highly of both schools, in particular the Tigers and defensive line coach Brick Haley.
"He's been showing me the different packages," Edwards said, "how I can fit and come in and be an impact player."
Edwards said he plans to unveil his final decision on signing day.
