2011 another great year for college football

Its crazy how in just a few years ive grown to hate the duck fanbase more then any other fanbase in the country. Not any of you guys on here but just in general. Ive never seen a program that has done so little puff their chest out so hard. You go on the duck boards, 247 specifically and you would be led to believe that oregon is in the middle of the all time greatest dynasty. Its comical, but they are dead serious. When their little run started I was actually rooting for them (except against SC) but damn has that changed.

Im not holding my breath, infact winning up in eugene this year would be pretty surprising but there really is nothing more id enjoy right now then to give that fan base some humility. Its like the fan base completely ignores the fact that they have embarrassed the pac 12 in every single one of their key ooc games.

The perception that the pac is weak is in large part thanks to the ducks and the beavers losing every time they step out of league play.

Hell, even UCLA has wins over Tenn. & Texas lately.

Enough of the rant and please for all thats good in this world beat the Ducks!

I agree with everything you wrote about the Ducks fanbase... but dude... you do realize that Oregon went to Tennessee and beat the brakes off them dudes last year, right? And please don't bring up this Texas team as some sort of OOC juggernaut.

And if losing to Cam Newton, a guy that ran through the entire SEC, by 3 points is "embarrassing" to the Pac-12... then I'm sorry that we embarrassed you.

The Tuesday Top 10: Best Freshmen

1-Sammy Watkins, Clemson, WR/KR: There was hype around the five-star recruit, but no one could've imagined Watkins would be quite this much of a difference-maker this soon. He's been everything for Clemson. "He is a true freshman who plays like a senior," says Tiger OC Chad Morris. "He is such a student of the game." Watkins is fourth in the nation in all-purpose yards and tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns.

2-Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina, DE: The biggest freak in the class, the former No. 1 overall recruit has been a force for a nasty Gamecock D-line, racking up five forced fumbles, five sacks and eight TFLs. Two of those FFs directly led to Melvin Ingram touchdowns. Hard to imagine Clowney being anything other than a three-and-out guy.

3-DeAnthony Thomas, Oregon, WR/KR/RB: After an up-and-down debut against LSU where the LA youth football legend had two fumbles but also flashed his blazing speed, the 5-9, 173-pound x-factor has quickly proven to be a great fit for the Ducks offense. Thomas is 16th in the country in all-purpose yards, averaging 150 per game to go with his 12 TDs.

4-Marqise Lee, USC, WR: Most people expected his old HS teammate George Farmer to be the rookie that generated the buzz among the newcomers this year for the Trojans. Instead, it's been Lee, a guy many figured would get switched to safety. The explosive 6-1, 190-pound Inglewood native has emerged as quite the weapon opposite another former Serra High star, Robert Woods, catching 25 passes for almost 300 yards and four TDs in the past three games for USC. I really try to avoid having two players from the same school on the Top 10s or else LB Dion Bailey, the team's leading tackler would be on here too.

5-Gio Bernard, UNC, RB: Only UCONN's Lyle McCombs has run for more yards among freshmen this season and Bernard (1,012 yards, 11 TDs) is averaging over than a yard more per carry than the Husky RB and has twice as many rushing TDs.

6- Isaiah Crowell, Georgia, RB: I was tempted to pick Malcolm Mitchell as the top Dawg freshman, but for as dynamic as he's been he's missed a bunch of games with a hamstring injury, while Crowell continues to pile up yards and give QB Aaron Murray a lot of support. Best thing about Crowell's impact: he's played in seven SEC games and gone over 100 yards in four of them.

7-Anthony Chickillo, Miami, DE: The Canes defense has struggled mightily after having been rocked by injuries and the NCAA suspension. Chickillo, a third-generation UM player, has been one of the biggest bright spots and is going to be a cornerstone for the rebuilding effort in Miami. He has started seven games, has made 34 tackles to go with 5.5 TFLs and four sacks.

8-Aaron Lynch, Notre Dame, DE: Notre Dame has been lacking impact D-linemen for a while, but they have a couple of young studs in South Bend now. Stephon Tuitt, who has started three games is another one, but for this list Lynch gets the nod. The guy is relentless and has lived up to his spring hype, notching four sacks and a team-best 11 QB hurries.

9-Brett Smith, Wyoming, QB: Going into this season it was fellow freshman Adam Pittser, a former Elite 11 QB that was the one people figured would take over the offense. Smith wasn't even ranked among the top 100 QB recruits, but the Oregon native has been very impressive for the Cowboys who are quietly having a nice season at 6-3. They've won three of their past four and Smith's thrown seven TDs and zero INTs to go with four more rushing TD and more than 200 yards on the ground.

10-(tie) Malcolm Brown, Texas, RB: UT is loaded with first-year studs and if WR Jaxon Shipley hadn't been banged up he probably gets a spot on here too. Like Crowell, you have a former blue-chip back who has made an impact early at a program that really needed a RB to step up. The bad news is he's battled turf toe problems that have limited him and Texas really missed him last week against Mizzou. Still, you had to be impressed with him running for over 100 yards in three of his previous five games before being sidelined.

10 (tie) Timmy Jernigan, FSU, DT: The Noles have a strong group of first-year players with TE Nick O'Leary, RB Devonta Freeman, WR Rashad Green and 17-year-old OT Bobby Hart, but I'll go with Jernigan who has really come on as FSU's gotten on a roll. Jernigan has 6 TFLs to go with 2.5 sacks and 3 QB hurries.

Oregon did a pretty good job with Auburn. It's funny when people say Auburn dominated Oregon's offense and held them to 19 points after blowing through the season as the leader in points per game, but Oregon holding Auburn to 22 points after they blew through their season (I think second in points per game) is not really mentioned.

If Oregon can not turnover the damn ball in their big games, we might have a chance to actually win the game. Can't win games if you turn the ball over and don't give yourselves a chance.

Turnovers that come to mind:

- Blount fumbling into the end zone against Ohio State
- Two INTs by Darron, one in the redzone against Auburn
- Two fumbles by DAT, fumble by Barner, INT from Darron agains LSU

Cam Newton badly missed 2 wide open TDs tho. so that held down the score. Auburn had dominated that game up until Cam fumbling late in the 4th

I forgot that Oregon beat the Vols actually. Texas just like Tennessee, obviously havent been at the top of either programs success levels but both of those are storried programs and are nice wins.

As for last year, Oregon should have beat Auburn, just like they should have beat Ohio st. Oregon has choked on the national level and thats why the pac gets no respect.

Do you know how sick I am of this whole SEC is better then everyone thing? when we were at the top of our game, with a defense better then those D's everyone goes gaga for in the SEC we were penalized time and time again because the perception was USC plays in the pac 1. Look we lost to the beavs, we lost to ucla, we lost to stanford, we lost to yall but those losses looked worse because the perception was and still is that Pac football is weak. It made it so a loss on the road in Corvallis was worse then a home loss to ole miss, our entire run of being the best in the country was always disrepected, even the beatdown we gave the sooners, up until kickoff they were going to run us off the field.

Oregon is doing things right now, but damn if they could win sime damn ooc games it might make people take football in the pac more serious. I want the conference to be looked at in a better light, if for no other reason so next time we are ready back in the mix we dont get left out again because the pac is weak.

Yup. Nick Fairley had his way with the oline the entire game, too. Score was closer than it should have been.

Dude, trust me... if there's ANYONE that wants a damn OOC win, it's me. Until we get one, I can understand why Oregon doesn't get too much national attention/respect. I'm not even going to make excuses, the team has done nothing but %!%# the bed in big games. You don't get anything for being the Rose Bowl runner-up, or a National Championship silver medal.

Add in the fact that, unfortunately, the Pac-12 is REALLY weak right now. USC, Oregon, and Stanford are pretty much the only teams getting it done week in and week out. Everyone else is losing to each other, or collapsing/rebuilding.
30t6p3b.gif
It's one of the reasons why I don't see Oregon making the NC, and I don't blame anyone but ourselves for not making it. Should have beat LSU.

Next year might be even worse... at least USC will be off of sanctions.

The only Duck fans I know with their heads on straight are on NT.  Well, now that Exile is dead that is.

Outside NT, you don't even wanna know what Duck fans think.  It's bad.  REAL bad.  I battle daily with folks, it's unreal the stuff they can come up with.

And I can get with they happy with their team right now, but to listen to them talk about the SEC like it's the Mountain West is nothing short of hilarity.

You all should come out this way and catch a sense of it, it's hysterical.

I live in the epicenter, so I've seen a lot of this lately... but do you see a lot of "new blood" Ducks fans where you're at, CP?

Guys that never really talked about sports, know nothing about sports, but all of a sudden have stickers, decals, t-shirts, hats, bobbleheads, etc? Have you tried having a conversation with these people? Dear God, it makes me want to stab my eyes out.

    • Rick Neuheisel as of now has an overall record of 20-27. He has to go 15-0 to catch Karl Dorrell. Karl FREAKING Dorrell.
    • Only two of Neuheisel's 27 losses by less than a touchdown. Six of 27 losses by less than 10 points.
    • 20 of 27 losses by two touchdowns or more.
    • 15 of 27 losses by three touchdowns or more.
    • Neuheisel's Pac-12 record is an abysmal 12-23, which includes a 0-3 record against Southern Cal.
    • UCLA total road record under Neuheisel is 5-17, for a .227 winning percentage.
    • UCLA's conference road record under Neu is 3-18. Those 3 wins came against a winless Washington team, a horrific Washington State team and this year's terrible Oregon State. Those 3 teams have a combined record of 3-30.

Sounds like y'all have a Pacquiao problem.

If I was smart enough and new how, I would plant a camcorder and record the convo's I hear at work.  I got a guy that talks ALL DAY LONG and loudly about this that and the other with the SEC, and he don't even watch college football.

The best part is because I have tried before to talk sense into him, he considers me an SEC honk.

All awesome.

I do see a lot "more" Duck fans than I used too, but I get that.  And really that's normal.  But for them to suddenly think they are experts, that's OD.  I don't even manage to keep up with the game as much as some of you in here, but I have at least some working knowledge of the game, they watch one game a week and try to tell folks how it is.

The other week a friend of mine was havin a party for the "big game"  I was impressed.  "Ya'll gettin together for LSU-Alabama?"  "No, the Duck-Husky game".
indifferent.gif
  Wha?  I mean,......I.....Ok, I get that's a nice game, but......do you, eh nevermind.
laugh.gif
I walked away disgusted.  They had no idea Bama and LSU were even playing.  Beam me up Scottie.

Oh, that's normal around here. Dudes didn't even know Boise State lost until I told them.

Me: "Hey, did you catch the LSU/Alabama game?"
Them (wearing 12-O shirts): "Nah, I only watch the Ducks. LSU is overrated, anyways. The whole SEC is overrated."
Me: "But... if you only watch the... how can you... didn't the Ducks lose to LSU?"
Them: "That game doesn't count. It was early in the season."
...

vs. LSU 27 - 40 (L)
vs. Auburn 19 - 22 (L)
vs. Tenn 48 - 13 (W)
vs. tO$U 17 - 26 (L)
vs. Boise St. 8 - 19 (L) (and 32 - 37 (L) the year prior)

Those are the last 3 seasons of Oregon OOC play.  Yes The Ducks beat Tenn, and yes Cam Newton won the Heisman, but it doesn't change the fact that whenever they leave the Pac10/12, they struggle.  Saying "but Cam beat __, __, and __ too!" doesn't change that fact is all I was saying.

(And like Gunna said, Tenn ain't #*#@)

And I only used Tenn because Feel used Tenn/Texas in UCLA's defense. Neither of those teams are the Vols of old or the Vince Young/Colt McCoy Texas teams.

Oh, and CP, the quote of the year by a %%+%%%+ Ducks fan is...
"I'd rather lose in the National Championship than win in the Rose Bowl."

I turned off the radio after this and felt like driving into a lamppost.

Maaaan, so I grew up in Portland and people on my facebook that never in their lives had watched college ball let alone duck football are all of a sudden experts on the game and acting like they have owned usc and the pac 10 for generations.

According to them we pay all of our players and only talk about our trophys and championships because we are living in the past and are irrelevent now
indifferent.gif

Not winning a rose bowl in generations is of no concern because they went 12-0 and stole DAT from us
