Thought some of you old timers here might get a kick out of this...  MODS, yes there is technically sneaker art in this post but I think the spirt of it fits in more with retro... and it's technically retro art

Mom found these in her house and sent them over. Looks like I wrote the letter 20 years to the day!
I imagine some of you must have submitted designs/written to Tinker, Kilgore, etc in the late 80's early 90's? Wally? I'm looking at you...
And to the youths, keep in mind there was no internet, at least not one where you could track down Tinker & Gentry yet! This took a bit of research on the part of my 13 yr old brain!

It's also nice to see that Nike has gone from legal brush offs to sponsoring all out design contests for kids!

I like the custom postmark.

I think I had come across Tinker's name an info in either an issue of Sports Illustrated or maybe a biz mag like Forbes or Fortune. I would go to the library and search the magazine database for articles on Nike's design process. Man, I was already pretty jaded!

I think it's basically a mix of an Air Trainer SC or Air Trainer E crossed with 180 tech. I remember anxiously awaiting a 180 trainer which never materialized and took it upon myself to design one. I mean maybe they were just waiting for me to submit one right? LOL.

So I didn't end up a footwear designer, but Nike's design work of the 80's and 90's opened my eyes to the field of design, and was a direct influence on the career path I chose.

Oh wow... very cool. And yeah, I'd like to know too about where your career path went...

Good stuff.

! Too bad they didn't accept your design, they look promising. Actually, they look pretty dope! I would've copped.

my how times have changed since then. Seems as if everything was on a more personal level back then before all this easy get-in-touch technology we have now days. Nice design by the way! Especially for a 13yr old.
