Yo fellas, love catching up on all the nostalgia in here. From the info to the pictures, this is by far one of the best threads on NT.

Thought some of you guys might appreciate this article I recently wrote for Complex/Sneaker Report. The concept is 10 Classic Tennis Shoes That Deserve Tech Upgrades. Now, I'm like a lot of you guys. I really can't stand when classics are just lazily redone with Vac-Tec, etc, so I made it a point to try to propose functional tech updates that actually make sense and maintain the classic feel of the OGs.

Since I know most people in this thread are serious about their tennis kicks, I'd love your feedback. Thanks and here's hoping we see more Agassi models sooner than later

Good article. Dunno about Lunarlon on Tech's though. There was actually a Torsion version of the Stan Smith in the early '90's. My Dad had them.

It makes a change for me to "meet" people who don't just bang on continuously about Jordan's. I've been waiting a long time for Nike to put out tennis shoes that I can wear off-court outside of the occasional McEnroe/Wimbledon. This thread is now my most frequented place on the intertron.

I read an article about the Adidas Kobe 1 and how they put new tech into that sneaker while maintaining the OG feel.  A result of that is some NBA players like Iman Shumpert and Damian Lillard actually enjoy playing in them.  Personally, I can tell you Iman wears them all the time.

I would hope Nike is already in the process of doing this sort of thing for future retros whether it be for basketball or tennis shoes.  It certainly is a wonderful concept if it can be executed properly.

Some dude on eBay has sizes 9-11 of clays, $210 shipped from Japan. I think that's way too high but thought I'd give a heads up. Looks like they are selling too.

I can't comment on a lot of those sneakers, cuz I've never worn them (aside from the ATC II & Court Victory).  What I can say, in terms of "modern tennis sneakers", is that I think a lot of players (generally speaking) look for 3 things...

Good durability on the outsole & upper, especially around toebox and medial-toe area for toe-draggers.  The game is much more physical now so with guys now sliding all over hardcourts (insane), the outsoles go really fast.  Though most of the current Nike tennis kicks use XDR on the outsole and offer a 6-month warranty.  

Good breathability on the upper... hot day + a hot hardcourt isn't pleasant.  It was speculated that the reason Rafa didn't wear the LunarBallistecs at the Oz open was cuz of the heat... he opted for the CourtBallistec 4.3's instead. 

And a good ride, cuz regular Nike Air or Hexalite just isn't enough.  Is Lunarlon the answer?  Maybe.  Some might feel that it might be too spongy, but I've read that some people quite like the Lunar on the LunarBallistecs.  It's really quite subjective cuz each player is different.  I'd personally be happy with low-to-the-ground Zoom.  

Having said all that, I rarely like "updated" sneakers... like some of the updates they've made to certain Trainers.  While some were ok, some of the other changes were just meh.  I've always said this... and it's... please just give us a proper retro... then do whatever upgrades you want to on following models.

My opinion on it is that I want my retros to be exactly like the og's. I was able to play on the hot courts on them back in the day and wear them, I can do the same now. But with all of the tech updates today most would just wear the retros as a casual shoe which is fine also. I think retros should be kept the way they are, as close to the og as possible. If you want some new tech in your shoe, Nike is doing a great job at making that happen. They just aren't making iconic shoes like they did with the Agassi line.

That's exactly it. BITD you could wear ATCII as casual shoes. You can't wear Vapor's to the cinema.
