The thing about midfield play these young players don’t understand is controlling tempo. Keeping possession, making the cleanest simple pass possible. Getting the ball back. Knowing when to play cleanly & when to use the veteran tricks to play dirty a la John Stockton (diff sport I know).
These young players see fancy passes & highlight reel ish but don’t understand how to really play the game. Everything I mentioned above is what I didn’t see in Denis Suarez & Carles Alena today (and in the midfield in general).
Espanyol dictated play today & Barca couldn’t answer. This is what I was waiting for to happen as the campaign wore on.
Hopefully Countinho will help answer that need. I still would like to get rid of Denis, Gomes, & Rafinha... With the arrival of Coutinho though, I suspect Rakitic will be surplus requirements too.
Lord have mercy I wish someone at the club was smart enough to go after Lyon’s Aouar. Different style of player but I haven’t been excited about a player like this since first seeing Isco play...
