What a miss from Kalinic :smh::lol: Could've been a winning goal for Milan. Bonucci gave him a golden opportunity for a sitter there.
Edit: Milan through to the final in the penalty shootout

back on the academy bit: yes we pay an enormous amount to have our youth on year round teams that are separate from High School. on a personal level, a family friend put his son on those teams and once the cost started to get higher because he was hitting U17 or whatever age group the dad decided to get his coaching license and be part of his son's team as to wavier the cost of travel, supplies and what not.

another instance was a client telling the story of his daughter was clearly the best on her team in a big competitive league. she's mexican and not good financially. Also happens to live in predominately white well off city. Coaches came up to her saying we need $2500 for you to continue and like everyone else on her team who were white can easily cough up the dough it hurt her going to her father saying I can't play anymore. once she was kicked out and her teammates discovered why they pulled money together for her to continue. great story but not everyone has a great ending to a story.

The roadblocks that happen everywhere in what is statistically the biggest youth sport played in this country:smh:

Really nice write up from Sid Lowe about Quini.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/28/quini-kidnap-ransom-barcelona-spain

I heard y'all have pretty high membership fees etc. for joining youth football clubs. On average what kind of annual fees are you looking at to join a youth football club?
It's around €250 a year here on average, with some outliers reaching up to €380 or even a bit higher. You can recoup part of those fees depending on how well you and your club perform and what division they play in. In some cases even turn a nice profit if your club is winning a lot in higher divisions, especially in tournament/cup matches. I know the local club in a nearby small town pays around €10 to their first team players after a regular league win and they play in the 3rd provincial division. Not sure about their other payout practices though.

Our health unions (public healthcare/insurance system) can also provide an allowance for youth football membership fees but I'm not sure to what extent. Presumably not much but it's better than nothing.

On average, Parents spend about $3000-10000 yearly here in the states and the youth club gets nothing in return if the kid is good enough to play in MLS or in Europe. It's one of the many things wrong with development in this country, there's no incentive for developing the kids. I would love to hear Kimchi Papi Kimchi Papi 's and northoaklandfc northoaklandfc 's take since they have firsthand experience on this topic.

I played national level youth soccer (2 time national champs while i was playing) and we had a few people fall out because they couldn't afford it. We were very lucky in that we had one person on the team, who's father was very wealthy, pay for our coaches. I know it wasn't a full time income type salary but it was a good amount. Then the players and their parents still had to come up with league fees, tournament fees, travel cost etc. We were low middle class when i was a kid and it was very hard for us to make all the fees. We got a lot of family help.

Its tough when in one year you play in florida, austin and san diego (and live in Maryland). And
you are a single parent with 2 kids. You need to cover airfair for everyone and living expenses while you are at the tournament. So i can't imagine what the total cost was for us as kids and even now-a-days

My wife handles the dough in the house but I think we spent about $6k a year on everything except hotel accommodations. Unlike @jking0821, my son played at a regional level, specifically the DelMarVa region as well as PA.

The money I mentioned did not include indoor & futsal which he played also. He actually excelled playing indoor & futsal bus he was more quick than fast & very very inventive in small spaces.

I really really miss watching him play. :frown:

Edit - I forgot to say, Belgium Belgium , I hope you get better... I know people that have had shingles & it's very very painful.

I'm glad P$G came to their senses with Neymar. You can't possibly risk playing him with whatever ankle injury he has as well as the fracture or "fissure" of his 5th metatarsal. I just wish Barca would take better care of it's players. :smh:

:wow: @ Cholo unleashing the hounds & letting his team attack more. it's paid dividends with lil racist bags. He had a hat trick this weekend & I think he scored 4 today.

I wish Los Blancos was playing better because La Liga has never been better.

Salt Bae wit them skills doe...

I actually chuckled when I saw this.

you're correct but this cartoon doesn't say anything about that tbh
and espanyol does still dawn the catalan stripes on their jerseys

This flag, known as the Estelada, is a symbol for Catalan independence:

Here are some pics of the Malaga/Sevilla match I went to earlier. Bad weather and the fact that Malaga is in last place contributed to the many empty seats, but overall a fun experience at my first Liga match. There really is nothing like watching football live.

Lukaku would be a north-south type of RB like Brandon Jacobs IMO. Breaking tackles and knocking dudes out his way.

Kimchi Papi Kimchi Papi Lil' psk doesn't play anymore?

Yeah, he stopped playing last spring. He come to his mother & I saying he was tried of it. He’s been playing year round from age 6 through 13.

Really miss watching him play. Good news is his best friend asked him to play this in a spring indoor league with a bunch of his buddies.

 Lukaku looks like he don’t know who that is...

Between the whole USSF in shambles and Trumpito, Morocco gets the WC bid for sure

Glad those Icardi to RM rumors died

Griezzy with 7 in the last 2 matches. Could make things interesting at the Camp Nou. A win and Atleti's red hot form could make the table interesting as well. I still would pick Barca to at least come out with a draw though.

I've always viewed RCD Espanyol as the house negros of Spanish dominion.

My interpretation of their history seems wishy washy and full of attempts to play both sides of the fence, a lack of identity or maybe just an attempt at preservation (which seems to have worked well).

Aint no club with any variation of the phrase "Royal" passably down with any sovereign separatist movement.

Even if you opt for the Catalan spelling/pronunciation "Reial," you still subjugating yourself to the Castilian capital b.

Possibly related to this...

Chinese clubs are still spending money like it's nobodies business
