I know there's quite a few on NT that play so I figured we could have a general discussion thread on it...

What kind of player are you, tight, loose, aggressive? What's your lucky hand? Do you play online? If so, do you think it's a scam? Do you always seethe flop if you have a pocket pair? What is your trademark at the table? Are you superstitious when you play? How long have you been playing? What's theworst beat you've ever had?

- Tical.

ive played poker for a while and takin a break at it right now til i find me a good poker house. lately whever i go.. alot of donkeys play.. play crapseriously jus like online. usualy i switch it up depends how im feelin. lately since alld onkeys out there ive been playin loose. lucky hand of mines is pocketkings. havent played online for a while either. and just becuase u got a pocket pair u dont always have to see the flop. depends how good ur pocket pair is.and depends how many people are on the table. my trademark on table is throwin my %+#% on table cell, ipod, and rockin a pigeon staple hat. and im notsuperstious to say but i never play ace jack no matter how pretty suited. i always ALWAYS lose on that hand. worst beat ever.. wow.. lost 600 in one hand. flopcomes out queen ace ace. turn a queen. river a king. im holdin pocket queens. guy was holding pocket aces. felt sick.

Gambling is a weak human trait, don't let people know you gamble.

Seriously, I want to get some 'advice'.

I've been playing hold'em for the last 4 year on and off, house games only though, you know, with the boys at the crib and stuff.

I want to start playing in casinos/tournaments, and my cousin and I are probably going to play the WSOP in 2010. Any general pieces of advice for making themove to casino games/cash games/tournament play.

Thanks in advance.

i like to donk money off so people get mad. best style ever.

forgot to add the usual ITT: donks

I'm a tight player and I play the odds......that's probably why I rarely win, but it's all just for fun.

I barely consider Hold 'Em gambling because it actually takes skill whereas in most other games where money is incorporated all it involves is rollingdice, spinning a wheel, or pulling a lever and letting fate decide it. In poker, you have control over what you play, how you play, and even what happens insome aspects.

I think caring what people think about you is a weaker trait than gambling.

Like Tical said, Hold 'Em is a game of skill...

Anyways, good post. I always like poker threads. I will continue to lurk...

How do you figure? Being a losing gambler is a weak trait... being a winner takes a lot of time, energy, and skill... Just like anything else in life.

That's actually my lucky hand haha. I've caught so many sets and full houses off of that hand it's not even funny.

I've been playing poker since i was 15. I'm 24 now. Fav hand is 9/10 (off or suited).

Played online when it was legal for a year. Multi table tourneys and mainly 5/10 .

I play on weekends at the Borgata in atlantic city . Main game is 10/25 or 5/10 depending on whats available.

I sub a 40.80 limit game on occasions. I'm extremely aggressive. Tends to anger pple.

No superstitions. Pocket pairs dont always require you to see the flop. All depends on the person raising.

I'll teach you, new black friend of mine. I've always felt teaching through playing was the best way, so throw a few hundo on stars andlet's play heads up for a bit.

If you are going the tournament route, I strongly suggest you pick up a book explaining Pot Odds, Expected Value, Probabilities, Risk, etc.. Ipersonally recommend Thursday-Night Poker by Peter O. Steiner. It really helps you think in terms of the long run and makes it easier for you to fold those"hard to fold" hands.

I also have dreams of participating in the WSOP but that wont happen until atleast my late 20s.

ftp.

i do believe yes.

I prefer Stars and Full Tilt. Stay away from absolute and anything that falls under that same company's name. superusers ftl.

I usually play tight, and that sets up for easy bluffing later when players think I only play when I got the goods.

Occasionally I'll throw them a change up.

But yeah, I like playing the odds.
