After years of anticipation, the moment that the Internet Wrestling Community has been salivating for finally came last night.
Damien Sandow won his first WWE Title.
We all remember in 2012 when Sandow won the Money in the Bank Briefcase. It was an interesting decision, but we thought that Sandow would be rocketed to the top. He wasn't the best worker by any means, but he certainly was a great talker and his genius gimmick was certainly working at the time. However, after winning Money in the Bank, Sandow quickly became a jobber, despite holding the briefcase. Then after months of losing, Sandow cashed in his briefcase in an unannounced match against John Cena on Raw, and promptly lost. Sandow has been lost in the shuffle ever since. However, in the past few months, Sandow has revitalized his career by accepting the comedy goof gimmick that Santino previously held. Sandow is now loved by the crowd with his Mizdow gimmick. It doesn't have a lot of legs left, but for now it's great. And WWE has rewarded Sandow for all of his hard work with the WWE Tag Team Title. Congratulations to him.
A 55 year old Sting also debuted last night. He's expected to face HHH at WrestleMania. Hopefully he is not made a weekly TV character because that would ruin whatever "prestige" he may still hold. Making him the new authority figure would be a very bad idea.
Team Cena defeated Team Authority last night at Survivor Series. It was the only match that really mattered on the show. After weeks of buildup, Ryback was treated as a jobber and killed any steam he had. The Big Show turned for the 8,713,982nd time when he knocked out John Cena and shook hands with HHH. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler against Kane, Luke Harper, and Seth Rollins. Ziggler eliminated Kane and Harper. He then was about to beat Rollins, but HHH knocked out the ref, twice. Then out came Sting for the save. Ziggler got the win, and The Authority is now out of power.
So the question is, who will be the new authority figure on Raw? For me, I hope they just go without an authority figure for a while. The authority figure is so played out. We've had it since the late 90s. How about something new?
Also, in order for HHH to return, John Cena has to allow it. So in someway between now and Mania, Sting will need to convince Cena to allow HHH back.
Nikki Bella also won the Divas Title last night when Brie seemed to rejoin her sister. Brie kissed AJ as the match started, distracting her. Brie then took advantage, hitting the Rack Attack to get the win in 32 seconds. AJ is likely done with WWE.
