Nike's vast collection of trainers have become some of my favorite shoes. I recently picked up the Trainer issue of SC (a year late

), and it took me back and made me realize how many dope *#! classics there are. From the many Bo's, to the Griffs, to the Dions, to the Barry's, and so on.. so many amazing models and lines. I know there's a lot of diehard trainer heads here, I'm especially lookin' at you WallyHoop, lol.. but anyone is welcome to join in!

Post pictures of your favorites, information, stories, history, anything you got.... this thread is for any and all Nike Trainer love..

Here's some pictures of favorites/obvious classics..

Also... these are dope! One of my favorite updated Trainers, the "Baseball Glove" Trainer SC 2010 Premiums. People kinda slept on these, but they are dope.. outstanding quality/detail/materials. The Brian Clays are also pretty dope in my opinion.

Yeah, I know about the thread in Showcase, but like Ruxxx said, this isn't exactly the same thing. I know I posted a chunk of pictures, but I was hoping we could make this one about more than just pics, just all sorts of trainer heads coming through to exchange info/stories/history etc. I've noticed a lot of times when Trainers are mentioned, Wally will pop up and drop multiple paragraphs of knowledge... I know he's far from the only head on here, but I love reading his $%+.

Ruxxx, I don't know if you've seen the Trainer 1 Unleashed on NikeiD, but that offers for some pretty interesting stuff, including a full 360 air bag.

I just wanted to take some time and make a comment on this genre as a whole, directed to everyone out there.

Just because Nike neglected this genre for a good decade doesn't mean there wasn't a solid foundation at the beginning.

Around my parts, you can bust out a pair of air trainer 1s at the gym, and just about every walk of life would remember having a pair of them. I'm talking grown men turning into school children as they reminisce the past. Jordans do it, some runners and bball shoes do it, and yes even your cross trainers had that
eek.gif
factor.

I found ways to get the shoes I wanted. I guess for others, it was just simply too hard. This whole genre could have a jordan like cult following if it had wanted, on the merit of the earlier models alone. 87-91 can outshine any other 5 yr. stretch out there. It has just as strong of a history and cultural impact as any other genre, but on a release front, gets treated like crap.

It's like there is this lost or forgotten voice for this sector. It's always an afterthought among collectors and others out there. Back in the late 80s, it was making as much money as Nike basketball and their running division. It's crazy the dropoff that this genre saw in the late 90s and early 00s and it's pretty much carried over into the "niche" market that it is now.

Nike, you've done a decent job the past two years trying to "revive" the genre, but I don't have your trust yet that you will continue this support.

Where do you all see the future of Nike training? Right now, the "cross" aspect is totally out of the equation. Do people not want a gym shoe anymore. I guess the whole gym craze that built this genre has gone by the way side, but it doesnt have to be this way. On the retro front, it's an utter and complete toss up. 5 AT III air attack colorways that no one is buying. Nice job!

I see so much untapped potential out of the retro branding of Nike trainers.. A GR AT1 chlorophyll would cause infrared am90 like emotions throughout the buying public. You can't create new fans on history alone. You need to create something that people would go crazy over. Something tangible that people can buy and wear. Talk is cheap. GIVE ME THE GOODS. The older dudes at my gym would instantly buy up a GR type at1 chloro. But we haven't seen that day since early 2001. Do you realize how hard it is to talk to a non sneaker type person on different shoe releases. QK, Co.jp, asia overseas? Are you kidding me?

Trainer fans are out there. They may not be as vocal or seen in any light, but a decent quality, highly available OG C/W model would wreck havoc all over the sneaker world.

As your motto says, JUST DO IT:

I''m sick of buying 10 year old retros that fall apart on me
-------------------

We've shown appreciation Nike, now it's your turn. A couple dozen of us throughout the years have lived off nothing but internet images, hoping for one day to wear a shoe. That's dedication. And you haven't given us much on a release front.. Time to balance that scale.

Sorry for the PSA message for those expecting photos. My basketball gym story is quite inspiring though. Back a few years I was playing pickup basketball games at my local college rec center. In there, you'll find all sorts of university workers, faculty, and students playing among each other. One day I take out some air trainer 1s, and out of nowhere, these older guys just instantly start remembering how it all went down for them 20 years back, when they were either in college, high school, or middle school. One shoe in one colorway flooded their senses. It was inspiring to me, because although it is just a piece of leather and some rubber, the stories they had were memorable. A piece of living history. Now maybe they got to have their fair share of that remembrance with the jordan retros, but this untapped sector is out there. You've created it with your crazy limited releases. Now finally fulfill those guys' dreams. The hidden unknown fans are out there.... and it's not just that first air trainer high shoe. Cross trainer series, the E series, the TW and TW lites. It would be just all out mayhem if released in the right fashion.
