The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

It is a hell of a card for that dump Foxwoods, :lol

That situation is a damn mess. My buddy that I run my MMA blog with has a wedding that day and couldn't make it, so I didn't cop presale tix. Another friend that cares about the sport trains with Sapo and is convinced he will fall *** backwards into a free ticket.

We'll see, I'm tuned in to the StubHub market.

You guys really having a mini/summit? I live near Foxwoods, would definitely be down.

Dont know much about MMA but would love to see it live
I'm serious if there's enough interest from other NT'ers. Some UFC, gambling, women, and drinks.

Rumble wasn't too happy about the brawl either...

Rumble in UFC today is completely different than the one that was in UFC before. Not just talking about in the ring, but outside of the ring. He sounds more mature. In the comments section he went on to say that if you were a Fortune 500 company would you want your athletes acting that way when they're supposed to be icons/pioneers of the sport/business.
Rumble's maturity level raised through the roof. It's helped his performance in the Octagon, market appeal, and title chances. He credits Dana a lot for straightening him out. Rumble deserves credit for allowing past adversity to be a life lesson that propels him in a positive direction.

But Jones is sponsored by BOTH Nike & Gatorade

Sponsoring an individual and a sport are two completely different things though. Gatorade sponsors 1 or 2 guys, Nike has 3 guys, UA has maybe 1 out of 500+ UFC fighters. He meant if you want big time Fortune 500 companies to take UFC and other mma organizations seriously things like that can't happen. Except for maybe Harley Davidson, which is probably low on the Fortune 500 list, you don't see many big companies with their logos on the mat or around the cage. You have big time companies paying millions and billions of $ to be involved with the NFL, NBA, MLB and MLS. Even the WNBA has big time sponsors from Adidas, Nike, Coca Cola, & P&G.

What Rumble is saying is that the incident between Jones and DC may get fans interested in the fight but it makes big time companies question whether they want to be associated with UFC or the sport in general. I'm sure some of them still see it as human cockfighting and this didn't help. I turned on my computer tonight and the 1st thing I see on Yahoo's front page is a picture of Jones and DC with a caption about how they showed the sad side of UFC and how it was shameful. These companies don't really want to be associated with that.

I have to fight tooth and nail for any MMA/boxing writing exposure with major sports networks.

There's a negative stigma surrounding the fight game, ever-present in NYC. I faced it every day in '13 and a portion of this year.

I'm amazed it hasn't happened more often to be honest.

At the end of the day these guys fight for a living. The UFC can sugar coat it all they want in PR & media relations but ultimately two guys will walk into the cage and try and knock each other unconscious. There will always be a segment of the population who can't deal with seeing that.

Funny how people look for anything to hate about regarding Jon Jones.
He's making it easy. The average MMA fan isn't going to accept the bravado. Coupled with his past DWI incident, I believe in his Bentley with women that weren't his wife.

Lets keep it #1HUNNA too though.

No race thread, but to a large portion of MMA fans, Jones is the wrong skin color to be acting this way.

Fair point.

Chael did similar shenanigans going into his fights and was lauded for the most part.

Unlike Chael, Bones has backed up his bravado in the octagon so far.

The fight with DC should be fun.

Some of the stuff chael would say was hilarious though. Saying he'd beat up anderson's girlfriend, big nog and eat food in his kitchen. I didn't like the guy for a long time but only liked him recently because he made me laugh.

I haven't liked jones since day 1. Sometimes you just aren't fans of certain fighters.

Humble Rumble :hat :hat :hat

Rumble just trying to be on the other side of things considering how unprofessional he was for many years not making weight

and having to hear all the criticism. It must feel good to be the one throwing shots

Haven't been on this thread in a while, man hammer house vs chute was unreal at the time again people were talking about ufc not doing tournament style, that's all bellator does. The DC vs jones brawl even if it was "staged" it sure looked it that's way.... I was dying on sheed of ppl were making comparisons for the DC/jones brawl and the Paul Daley cheap shot ppl actually saying this situation was worse haha

Bellator does not do Pride style tournaments. Pride had the entire tournament done in one night for the most part. Fighters had to fight multiple times in one day and it was EPIC especially the open weight grand prix.

Weren't some tournaments spread over 2 events? I need to start buying up the Pride tournament dvds, they used to sell a few at bestbuy years ago. Need the lhw tournament one with Liddell.

Crocop taking wand's soul at the owgp was one of the worst beatdowns i've ever seen.

Grand Prix were usually over 3 events. The semi and final usually being on the same night

Hendo and Gomi's were different, quarter and semi were the same night, then final was by itself

Is the NSAC in need of money?

1st they're trying to block Chael from doing Metamoris and if he does participate they're gonna fine him over $1M. The NSAC never regulated Metamoris before but now all of a sudden they're trying to force him out last minute or make him pay that huge fine.

Now they're going after Wandy. They want him to pay court fees, attorney fees, investigative costs, and any other fees or punishment the commission thinks its right. Normally that would be ok but Wand wasn't even a licensed fighter in Nevada so he wasn't subject to their rules. So they're trying to call him an "unarmed combatant".

I can't wait to see the fine that Jones and DC are gonna get from their brawl. Probably gonna take 10% of each fighter's purse.

Jones is on another wavelength

Conor's bravado>

Good grief he just doesn't miss when the mic is in his hand

PRIDE has never had a tournament done in one night, unless they had some four man tournament that I'm not remembering. The max times a fighter ever had to fight in one night in PRIDE was 2 times.

that's why i inserted for the most part because most of the good stuff of the tournaments were done in the same night.

and yes, there were fighters who fought more than 2 times in 1 day - For example Mark Coleman fought 3 times in 2000 grand prix which was over one event.
