Thanksgiving 2024 - What are you doing/cooking?

My sister moved to Miami in October so we're doing 2 Thanksgivings. First Thanksgiving will be traditional. Popeyes Fried Turkey(screw yall, its easy and it taste good), Mom's dressing, Sister's mac and cheese, Collard greens, canned cranberry sauce, Mom's sweet potatoe pie and a German Chocolate Cake from the "cake lady". Second Thanksgiving will be Surf and Turf. Steak and lobster or possibly crabs and shrimp, we haven't decided yet. I just like saying "First" and "Second Thankgiving". Sounds so Bigbackian.

Thanksgiving has always been the traditional turkey/stuffing/mashed potatoes/cranberry. For Christmas is when we do a Caribbean menu with curry duck/goat and stew chicken with rice and roti.

Deep fried bird
Mashed potatoes
Stuffing (Stove Top don't come at me)
GB Casserole
Cranberry jelly from the can
Spinach Gratin
Corn bread
Rolls

Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Man it’s easy to make your own cranberry sauce but it won’t be like the can (tastes better honestly). Look up Alex guarnadchelli’s recipe and cut the sugar in half.

Man, I still need to try the Popeye's turkey. Heck, even a deep fried turkey.

Do I just go to a Popeye's to order one?

Got reservations this year because I’m not gonna have time to cook and my wife’s family can’t boil water.

Gonna be freaking it on Christmas though.

The jellied cranberry is just a tradition. We have to have it and everyone likes it.

I've been deep frying for about 5-6 years now. If you do go that route, get an electric fryer. There are the Masterbuilt ones on Amazon. It's better than boiling gallons of oil over an open flame and lowering a turkey in it. It's expensive because the oil is like $50. But the actual cooking time is like 45minutes - 60minutes depending on the size of the turkey (something like 4.5 minutes per pound). Taste just can't compare - juicy, crispy skin.

Ruth’s Chris is gonna hold me and the fam down.

I’ve realized the effort that goes into cooking all that **** ain’t worth it to me. And it ends up costing about the same as going out to eat.

Only downside is no leftovers for days afterwards.

You can just go pick one up. SHOP AROUND tho. The first Popeyes I went to tried to charge me $80! I got it from another one for $60.

Not cooking. It's just the parents and my brother, so we're going out to a really nice steak house. They have traditional Thanksgiving entree options, plus a few steak options.

Going to my sister's place. We have generations of horrible cooks in my family, so there is nothing to look forward to on the table. Hopefully they don't **** up the mac and cheese, and some of the meat is edible. Best I can hope for.

TBH, sometimes you just gotta do it yourself. Learn to make one thing really well every year. In a few years you'll know enough to make a full meal. We are living in the age where all the info is out there. My family never made traditional American Thanksgiving food so I had to learn it all myself.
