Remeber the History Of Air? ...well why couldn't Nike do it with cross trainers?

After a long debate with myself, I kept the same formula that Nike used on its HOA project for its running shoes.

-7 models spanning almost 20 years worth of products

I present: NIKE HISTORY OF AIR (TRAINERS)... A proposal
f3t08j.jpg

-Purely speculative of course, I spent many free hours thinking to the past:
Do I add in all of the Bo Jackson early models? The SC I and SC III were something special but is that too much Bo?
-I wanted to span the entire life cycle of Nike's cross trainers from the beginning to the very recent
Questions that arose:
-Do I add in any of Deion's turf trainers, any of the other turf, or air max beasts? What about Griffey or the other football themed full length air shoes?
-Do I add a few shoes to my proposal or keep it right around the 7 shoe mark?
-------
From the TW and TW LITE series of the early 90s, to the free series starting in 2005, there were so many models to look through. Right around the turn of the century, Nike took a dump with the trainers, so I had to think about what model stands out between 98 and 2009, there was only one.
--------
In closing, I leave ya'll with the thought of what could be:
-7 models spanning 20 years
-2 iconic colorways from each model
-All to be released in true to original form over the course of 4-5 months.

Wouldn't that be something?

The question I ask you all, what model would you replace for something else? is this list acceptable?

Where do I sign up?

The only models that I'd like to replace would be the Barrage and the Pillars. I like the Pillars, but am not sure if they fit directly in this trainer group, if you know what I mean. I'd like to see the TW in there.  FT's perhaps as well?

cuz most of them joints would straight up clog da outlet pipe.....

This would be dope. It's so many dope cross trainers nike made it would be hard for me to pick.

A more deliberate focus on retroing trainers, don't see why not, but specifically marketing it as retroing a 'series' of air trainers, or related shoes... i don't think
the air trainer's history has near the same level of interest around it as the Air Max.

I'm hard pressed to think of the last time Nike retroed a shoe, and left it at just two colorways.

...probably. Nike don't seem to care too much about that these days.

The latest new Trainers look ok, but Nike virtually butchered this line for damn near a decade, without even bringing up the retros.

I'd love for this to happen but sales numbers won't match the marketing that would be needed to sell these. Even when the Chlorophyll 1s dropped, I picked up a pair on sale at UBIQ. Surprised they were still available.

Slowly but surely Nike is retroing the right trainers. The past year gave us AT1 chloro, Med Balls, SC, Carnivore and Griffey. Wasn't there some grumbling about the Trainer '91 coming out this year?

What we DESPERATELY need is the SCII.

Good idea (I posted the same here three years ago).

Wrong selection (air trainer line virtually died in 93 with the exception of zoom trainers and FTs).

Nike should retro (correctly):

- Air trainer I, II, III and IV
- Air cross trainer I, II (OG, not the 2000 version, also called cross trainer II from ALPHA proyect) and III
- Air trainer TW, TW II (now called trainer 2), TW lite, TW lite II and TW lite III
- Air trainer SC (now called III), SC II and SC III (now called SC)
- Air trainer MAX 91 and MAX 93
- Air trainer huarache
- Air trainer E

Low and high cut versions. Mens and womens versions, please.

That is the only trainer history that diserves to be retroed. Zoom and FTs are welcome, but unnecessary.

If anyone needs pics, just ask. All of these beauties are worth.
And, please, stop writing things like "they'll finish in sale racks". Almost every nike model has been on them at one time (Jordans, Foams, retros, trainers, forces....).

Sounds like a good idea. Just reminded me that I have a pair of the '04 Trainers. Thanks for reminding me, OP!

Don't know how well they'd all sell, but I'd be in if they were done right.

I'm in, but i'll switch the Air Pillars for some Deion Sanders Turfs.
Air Huaraches

Great Idea op.

i dont see them them kicks jerry seinfeld use to rock, those were super fresh, they almost look like hurache's but better.. i like them pillars

air max 87, i somewhat agree but that HOA project got non runner fans into running shoes. They felt involved in the process as they got to see the history unfold and they could reBUY any of the classic shoes. I dont see why it wouldnt work here when you create that sort of "gimmick" to get that interest going.
---
Magic1978, suguruvstotoro, I agree "cross trainers" in the traditional sense died around 93. We could easily see 8 iconic shoes from 87-92 without even second guessing.. I got some other photoshops in the works for the real CLASSIC cross trainers.

This one, I wanted to span the entire life cycle, but it wasn't easy and I did turn away some classic Bo's.. I'll have to revisit my list real soon

heelntoe-wit-my-nyks, do the chloros even count? It's going on a decade since they were last a GR. I dont consder a 250 pair run as a worthy "release". I get PMs almost weekly about people asking where they can get 2000 chlorophylls. They know what they want and Nike is not answering the call. No joke, I dare anyone to step foot in a gym with the chloro at1s or the zt1 on and you'll get 50,40, even 60 years olds telling you how they remember when they had those almost 20 years back.. It's really fun trying to tell those dudes the only hope of them getting is a pair is searching ebay for an inflated $150-200 dollar pair. In their eyes, what they seem to remember, is when they were younger they could go into any shoe store and pick out a pair. It's heartbreaking telling these older people that it's not so easy anymore.

A cool idea, but as other have alluded to, cross trainers don't have the universal appeal as the running kicks do, so it would likely face lackluster reception, apart from the NT population.

Wally-

You do have a point, but i think air maxs just have a larger audience... when you think nike, you think nike air.... air maxs.... people have no problem dropping 160 on some am 2009s.... i remeber growing up in the 90s and the drug dealers rocking the newest and expensive air maxs.....

cross trainers dont have that appeal.... medicine balls did decents and i think cause it wasnt that huge a GR, and even then i found a spot that sold me 10 pairs at $35 a pair cause they werent moving, the only trainer that makes me go
eek.gif
is bo jacksons... and even jacksons take a while to sell and they appeal to the "hood" audience...

you saw nike could gimmick it, you really want nike to put a spin on it? make them limited with horrible colors? nike did put their spin on it and made the "bo knows" pack and made them limited, you really wanna deal with that? or you want horrible colors that wont move and its gonna be another 10 + years for a retro?

I like the list but I wouldn't include the Air Barrage or the Zoom Trainers.  I'm sure there's a few people with nostalgic memories of the Air Barrage but there's too many other trainers that came out to not include them.  Like the idea of adding in the Pillars (REALLY surprised we've never seen a retro of this shoe) and I like that it's a mix and not all Bo Jacksons, but I would say there should be one Deion (like DT2's) and one Griffey (Griffey Max 2's or 3's)

So for Griffey's one of these two in a couple of OG colors:

And for Deions, these:

I mean, this could just be coming from personal preference but I'm also looking at what we've been missing from Nike in terms of trainer retros and what most people would want.  I don't think this would ever release because unless they made it limited to Tier Zero Accounts or something, nobody would go out of their way to cop any of these for retail except for die-hard fans. (I bought two pairs of white/royal/orange SC trainer retros at retail and those things are everywhere now for $75 and under)

whatever it takes for an Air Cross Trainer Low or Air Trainer SC II High to release,
i am down
