I plan on going to LA in September. I am trying to find the best area to stay. How is the public transportation out there? Will I be able to get to Hollywood & Dodger Stadium on the public transportation or should I rent a car?

Before you say put this in the regional section realize nobody checks the regional sections much.

rent a car. you'll spend all day on a bus in LA and get nowhere. we have a subway that goes like, 5 blocks

The metrolink will get you to some places but that keeps you tied to the lines. LA is too spread out...hop in a car and do what you wanna do when you wanna do it

Traffic is bad if you're going anywhere between 7-9am and 3:30-7:30pm on the freeways. Traffic one the streets depends on the area.

A 20 min ride with out traffic will end up being an hour plus with traffic. LA drivers are so stupid sometimes. Especially when there's an accident or its raining. 101 and the 405 freeways are the devil.
I live less than 7 miles from my job. My job is right where both of these freeways meet. It takes me 30-40mins to get to work. On the way home it takes me 15 min.

OP

Make things easier for you and get a car.

LA doesnt have that NYC/SF type public transportation. its only useful when you know where your going. LA drivers are the worst

Make sure you hit LA Live, Staples Center, hollywood, sunset, Rodeo Drive, etc. Also wilshire, 3rd street, fairfax for clothing, etc.

You should also hit up Venice Beach, Santa Monica, all great spots to hit.....if you really want, go down crenshaw as well, get the whole LA feel.

Glad to call this place home

Stay away from freeways on Weekdays around the 8am-10am & 4pm - 6pm rush.
Other than that, it's not as bad as it seems.

And OP, rent a car, don't rely on public transportation, you'll get to where you need to be a lot sooner.
