I really want the NEX 3, I was just wondering how it compares to the D3100?

The d3100 is a top notch beginner camera. And at a great price too.
I dont know much about sony cameras, but I would suggest going Nikon or Canon, simply because they have better lens'.

What would be a nice camera (DSLR - do I NEED one of those?) for taking pictures in natural settings/outside (landscapes, concerts, etc.)?

Looking to cop one soon.

You can achieve any of those pictures with any dslr, its the photographer that matters, and the lens too. For landscape you're going to need a wide angle lens, and for concerts you will need a lens with a big aperture, 2.8 or 1.8
