OFFICIAL 2020 STIMULUS CHECK THREAD

If prices of items go up at the same rate as the minimum wage increase, it’s negligible . Your buying power is the same. That gas company who has a few minimum wage workers will see fit to raise rates. How many companies out there would not have to change a thing? The numbers would shock you. Even basic city service jobs employee teens and such seasonally (parks and rec come to mind). But there goes your city taxes seeing an increase. No one but the citizens will take the hit.

If you go from $12 to $15, and have that extra $480 monthly, just hope all your other spendings and bills and taxes don’t increase beyond that. Odds are; it’ll be close

My area just increased minimum wage to $10.50 (previously $10 I believe). Many are seeing their hours cut to match Budgets. Don’t be surprised if everyone becomes part time.

You really don't know what you're talking about.

Lowest level municipal jobs don't pay minimum wage. They almost always pay above and they typically pay a few bucks more than the private sector equivalent. In that regard it's the exact inverse of what you see as you move up the wage scale when comparing public vs private sector.

I tell young people with no work experience who are looking to enter the work force all the time, get a city job.

But this that ugly conservative ******** sensible people get frustrated with.

Yall really thing more people should not be paid closer to a living wage, because people in higher tax brackets gonna take a hit of a couple cents on the dollar in local taxes. The horror.

:lol :{

I just added to my post. Where I live, minimum wage went up at the beginning of the year. Budgets aren’t being increased. As a result, hours are being cut. This is that 30-32 hr part time threshold to Not have healthcare all over again. Prices of goods may not go up just a dollar, but cuts are happening elsewhere. Maybe everyone becomes PT, and no one has insurance
I just don’t know why this is included into a direct stimulus package. $400 extra for UI is more than many are making working essential food based jobs. There has to be a better system. I’m all for paying essential $20-$25, and hoping folks actually have to show certification that they’re trying to work.

Well that's kinda silly if a $.50 increase is causing companies to cut hours (It's likely that the pandemic is more to blame as that's happening acrossthe board everywhere). In pre covid times Cali had been increasing in increments of $1 each year (actually just went up again Jan 1st to 1/1) up to $14. That's still not enough for a livable wage here, but yet the economy was doing record numbers before covid cause people were making more and spending more as a result. You'll always have greedy companies that put the concerns of stockholders over the people on the ground but that's a different discussion. In general most of the studies have shown greater productivity from workers, lower turnover and slight increases in prices which are more than offset by the increased spending power of the consumers who are trying to make ends meet.

Companies have already begun cutting back. Fewer workers, more automation. They have more self-checkouts than employees. Under Trump, most of these companies haven't had to pay taxes and have made more money while works rights have been slowly cut. Hell, Mcconell only would approve of a 2k stimulus if they would be able to attach that workers are unable to sue employers for COVID.

Yea the city workers in LA are making BANK.

All the jobs here are union. Like if I was a Minneapolis dump truck driver or garbage man I’d make 30 something an hour.

not as much as a union driver for a company but still it’s not bad at all.

MVP MVP margins are low. A pandemic and any additional increases is not good for business. So yes, it is just terrible timing. Places were barely hanging in before the $0.50 increase. Now most will be lucky to have a job. But I like said, they’ll be on that $400/wk UI hit for awhile. So not all is lost. Most are making more on UI than working a $11-$15/hrso maybe that’s the point.

City and county wages are made public. These folks are also on thin margins since many shut down and those tourism and spending dollars aren’t there. Thousands of jobs are below the $15 threshold where I live. If they couldn’t afford $11, what’s to say they can afford $15. I would love for companies to take a hit but rarely does that happen.

the Navajo nation had been paying casino workers for 8-9 months and just recently told them they are all laid off. Reopening is not in their plans at the moment. We’ll find many places who held onto workers can’t do so any longer. And that was with LOWER wages

So anyone who got the EIDL grant this dude us saying we're about to get the remainder of the 10k.
I'm skeptical but be watching you're email and spam closely. If I get 9k more out of this. :wow:

Shiiiiiiiii.....mfkn line cooks make more than city workers where I'm at  they just there for the benefits fr.

Big corps would just shut down, or truly have 4 workers doing the job of 12. That or your $5 Big Mac is now $12, and everything else inflates.
Why can’t we just get a stand-alone stimulus?
So much fat from both sides. Why can’t people see that.
Lol no. Profit margins would just be smaller but employees staying in that job would rise so numbers would work. Hiring new employees is expensive. Fitting the bill for incompetence is expensive. Poor Amazon might just make 3.1 billion instead of 3.2 billion next month with a raised minimum wage. Oh the horror

You’ve been throwing out the both sides arguments for months and have been getting clowned consistently only to hide for a couple days and act like nothing happened.

I’ve always seen the job stuff simply as you get what you pay for as an employer. These places that want to nickel and dime and be on that cheap **** ultimately end up paying in the form of high employee turnover, and employees who don’t give a **** and that half *** everything, and I can’t really blame them.

Crappy pay attracts crappy applicants. You cut your employees hours because you’re mad you have to pay them more, they aren’t going to try their best, production is going to drop because you want to cut corners, and if they quit, now you gotta waste time training new people who will likely quit quickly too once they realize the job sucks

What’s crazy though is places like in n out and Costco which have a track record of doing right by their employees and pay them well compared to their competitors have good prices. A double double meal at in n out costs less than a big mac meal and most would say a double double meal is better. Those in n out employees stay working their butts off too. That extra pay and simply making a slight effort to do right by your employees gets them decent employees who stick around. The customer service at those places is way better than their competitors as well.

The only thing I like about stuff going automated is that I usually “accidentally” forget to scan most the expensive items when I go grocery shopping. I don’t work for the company, so if I gotta scan and bag my own stuff without getting any type of employee discount, it’s only right I give myself one. And if I were to ever get caught I would just say the company never trained me on how to use the register. I hate self checkout so I usually go out my way to wait on line or if I do use self checkout, I make it worth my while in the form of stuff not getting scanned.

I think Sunday the 17th they launch new portals on the SBA website. I've also heard the 20th so 🤷‍♂️ I am also skeptical of the remaining monies ending up with us like my 9k. I'll be happy as long as I get another 1k grant. Anyone thinking of finesseing this time, better not. Supposedly alot more eyes on it this time, there's a new head (I think) of the SBA too.

my sister has only had two jobs. Her second job was at Costco and shes been there for over 15 years.

my wife runs a restaurant and all the cooks make at least 20 an hour. It’s cheaper to pay them more and keep good people.

as for self checkout? That’s your employee discount since apparently you work there now. I do the same ****. Oops all cabbage! 🤷‍♂️

Can someone who got a stimulus check answer me what it appears on your bank statement as? My little brother asked me that question and I dont know the answer. TYiA.
