I'm planning on hooking up a wireless router in my apartment and was wondering which kind should I get? I mainly just plan on surfing the net and being onXBL.

Oh and price is not an issue, but I don't want to pay a large sum of money for a router when I can get one thats just as good for cheaper.

Netgear...

To be exact..
RANGEMAX WIRELESS-N GIGABIT ROUTER

WNR3500
You should get one of those new Linksys wireless routers by Cisco. Flash it using DD-WRT and it'll be the best router you ever had.

QFT. I posted this question last week. I'm on day 3 with my Linksys WRT54GL it's great. Flashing was really easy. I picked one up fromnewegg for 59.99. It won best router of the month 22X.

http://www.newegg.com/Pro...m=N82E16833124190. Here is the lite versionof a guide I followed to install DD-WRT.

First thing you should do is download these two files:

http://dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/dow...p?file=259

http://dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/dow...p?file=260

That's the official "stable" V24 SP1. There's newer pre-SP2 builds that are still in beta if you wish... about the only new featureyou'll get is the virtual WLAN feature (where you can have more than one wireless network running simultaneously) but it's not entirely stable on allrouters yet (at least not on my older one so I can't use it.)

First install the mini_generic firmware via the web interface of the router, then install the std_generic one. Third, configure and be happy. Most all thedefault settings are perfect for the typical user, so it's basically just set up your wireless security, make sure UPnP is enabled (and on your PS3 andother devices that may support it), and that's about it. With the QOS feature you can prioritize bandwidth if you think you need to.

Oh, and just to possibly save you the time of looking it up: Login to default linksys routers out of the box is password: admin, with username left blank. After dd-wrt install, same password but username = root. You can change both after installation.

Don't bother installing the CD that comes with the router. You absolutely don't need it. Just log into 192.168.1.1 from your browser.

Use to be a diehard Linksys fan. I've had their B, G, and N Routers. The N Router was a waste of money and i literally had to reset the router daily.Switched to a Belkin Wireless N+ router and haven't had any problems since. I have 3 laptops, 1 desktop, 3 iphone/itouch, and XBL going at the same timewith no lag.

Really I say avoid. The Belkin N1 Wireless Router F5D8231-4. I went through 3 of them. Always had disconnects. Made ps3 online almost unplayable.

But, if you really want one. I have one for sale.

if you can get a regular Cisco, not a Cisco Linksys. They are commercial quality routers.

A new Cisco Linksys would be the best residential routers and Belkin too.

Stay far away from Netgear those are the worst routers ever. I have no idea how people around here can stand them.
