Adidas is expected to announce Wednesday that it is expanding its partnership with Mr. West to include performance gear and a new line of co-branded retail stores. The German company is trying to boost sales, particularly in the U.S., where it has lagged far behind rival Nike Inc., by bringing the Grammy winner's designs to the mass market.

Adidas said it would separate the Adidas + Kanye West line into its own business unit. It will have dedicated staff based at the company's U.S. headquarters in Portland, Ore., similar to Nike's line for basketball star Michael Jordan. Financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed.

Last year, Adidas introduced apparel and high-end sneakers designed by Mr. West in limited quantities -- notably $350 gray suede high-tops called the Yeezy Boost 750 that have been selling for thousands of dollars on the secondary market. The company declined to provide sales figures for the Yeezys, though Adidas's share of the more than $1 billion secondary market jumped from 1% to 30% since the shoes were introduced in February 2015, according to market tracker StockX, formerly known as Campless.

"Our industry is so ready for disruption, the same signature lines have X player, Y player, Z player, so of course we're going to have Kanye work with our guys to challenge that as well," said Eric Liedtke, chief marketing officer for Adidas.

Mr. West said he played football, basketball, tennis and volleyball in high school, but that singing and performing are also athletic. "I'm not just a musician singing in front of a mic, we are running, jumping, we're getting hurt," he said. "We're in the same arenas that the ballplayers play in.

Plz let yeezy 2s rerelease in mass quantities on opening day of the first store... let someone at nike have a petty bone in there body. Amen.

still don't care for the adidas thus far

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at crazy prices and the clothes just sitting.

No thanks. His shoes are aight, but the clothes are horrible so already not interested.

He should make Yeezy clothes available in Adidas stores at a low price point, or maybe even a Nike Lab-esque line where the pricepoints are somewhat believable.

Gotta give it to Ye tho. He just won't give up. The real fashion houses don't want him but he's determined to turn Adidas into Balmain.

Release date pls

Good shaking it up and getting Nike off this lazy streak of look alike flyknits. Surprised they are letting him push more clothes, cuz that junk was so over priced , and the shoes/potato sacks with laces are just ugly. Adidas boost are better styled and the tech seems better to me then lunar.

Adidas milking the partnership and I can't really blame them.

Shoes are going to sell but the clothes probably will sit, I see some of his Yeezy collection on Barneys Outlet stores.

Unless they pretty much just makes their usual Adidas Originals clothing with Yeezy branding, then those might sell real well but not his runway stuff.

Curious to see if this is the direction the clothes go though.

Adidas only invested in one season of the Yeezy line I believe. So the other 2, they were not involved in. He funded those himself. Which is probably where some of the "debt" he was talking about came from (not sure anything even released).

But I'm sure they see how the product in the Pop up shops is moving.

So I think it might be moreso along those lines. Sportswear moreso than "high end" clothing.

Said this in the music thread but this is a good look for both either way as the partnership seems to have worked out well for both.
