Hey wassup everyone i have a question for all the pro custom artists. Is there a solid way to paint on patent leather without it cracking or peeling evenytually? Ive watched many vids like king of sneaker etc and they all use angelus paint and clear coats but no one had mentioned that these methods will stay. I dont intend on playing sports or anything like that just light wears..

just as an example would the paint start to peel/crack

.

In some of the king of sneakers videos they do mention about cracking

They say that their way is one of the best flexibility wise (using angelus and thinner),

but custom shoes in general are more of artwork, they arent for playing sports in if you want them to last

Walking in them is fine though... I assume you want to do the dirty bred custom?

another problem is the paint will never look as shiny as the leather.

They actually have finishers that you can apply to the patent leather after you paint it to add shine

Which is used to mimic the look of patent leather

Thanks interesting vid, but that midsole paint job is not like patent.

So would you just use the angelus acrylic leather paint and cover it with acrylic finisher?

From what I've learned you prep, then apply a adhesion promoter, and then paint. After you apply your finish

FBCC sole dye also works on patent leather. White and grey not sure about black i dont think it will

u can just use suede or leather dye. thin coats on grey or white patent. use denatured alcohol or acetone (lightly) to smooth it out
