My roommates and I were arguing this the other day during the game. I said he was and my roommate said he wasn't.I ask him how so, he explains he is not ofblack culture. So I say as far as race in the America he is considered black.

So is he black?

(except the PGA tour) Are you people complete ignorant ******s ? Of course he's black. Look at him. His race is black, his ethnicity is Latino, hisnationality is Dominican. The three are completely different from one another.

He is a Black Latino from the Dominican Republic, but he is not a Black African American......basically he's latino lol

Look at his skin, that will tell you another.

He's a black Latino. But yes he's black.

Saw this on another message board bout the same thing:

Most Dominican's are black, just like Haitians, most Jamaicans, Brazilians and millions of other people around the world with darker skin, kinky hair andAfrican lineage. They are black as far as race is concerned and how it is defined in the united states. Culturally, they are Latino. This is based off of thelarge Spanish-Catholic culture imposed on slaves and the adoption of their beliefs.

To say that Dominicans, or any other African Latinos are not "black" is ignorant. Most blacks have some legacy of white and/ or indian blood in theirlineage and we are still considered black. Their is a major cultural difference between Latino and American cultures but that does not define a race.

Actually, you're the ignorant one who needs to keep quiet. You have no grasp of the concept.

There are rumors that David Ortiz has Haitian ancestry but they say that about every dark skinned Dominican. I know there are Dominicans like Felix Pie whosefamily comes from Haiti and Alfonso Soriano who is supposedly half black because his father's family is from the islands.

he isnt hatian but any dark skin hispanic is obviously of african decent. im dominican but light skin. i have cousins that make david ortiz look pale

but yeah my fam is mixed with spaniard and african blood so there u go.

some uppity dominicans may say they not black...some might say yes i am black..it all depends..but strictly from a cultural standpoint latino is the way to go
