I've tied my kicks like that since i was like 16, but not because it was the right way. I did it because i didnt like the way the tied shoe lace would fall down the middle of the shoe.

Yeah, that's how I tie mine - it's the only sensible knot - a reef knot (or square knot to some folks) with both ends slipped. It's strong and neat and my laces never come undone.

My wife's laces are always undone - she just ties them however - all twisted and inside out - just a granny knot with loops.
