"The child was not under attack but all sorts of things could happen," Thane said. "He certainly was at risk."
Thane said zoo officials decided against shooting Harambe with a tranquilizer because the drug takes effect too slowly.
"You don't hit him and he falls over," Thane said. "It takes a few minutes."
The gorilla took a nurturing approach if you check the video out. Recognized the 4 year old wasn't a risk to him/her at all.

Came across this small clip on twitter where the gorilla drags the kid across the water tho
Not saying the gorilla deserved to be shot, this was in my opinion ultimately the parent's fault
damn those silverbacks are just
my wife and i were talking and she was like if our daughter fell in you better jump in there and protect her [emoji]128563[/emoji]
Eh I mean there's no way that anything should be getting into that gorilla enclosure. So for that, I put it on the zoo. Parents lose sight of kids all the time. I'm not going to destroy the mom because this time it just happened to turn out worse than normal
I thought most zoos did have gorillas behind glass.bat least the zoos I've went to had gorillas behind glass. Why in the world would there be an open exhibit( without nets and stuff)Eh I mean there's no way that anything should be getting into that gorilla enclosure. So for that, I put it on the zoo. You might as well close zoos then. Or keep all gorillas behind glass, which isn't a bad idea.
If you can see the gorillas without a glass then there is always gonna be a way for a human to get in there.
Tranquilizers take too long. There was another story about a man who tried to commit suicide by jumping into a lions den at a zoo. The tranquilizer a they had would've taken too long so they ended up killing the lions. Guy still got mauled thoughBased on reading accounts of other people who were there, the parents (or parent) straight up weren't paying attention and their kid just stumbled in there. Dumbness. You can tell the gorilla realized it was a kid, but the gorilla's pure strength plus that being a little kid made it look real bad. Not really sure what else could've been done (maybe tranquilizers??), but sooner or later it's possible the gorilla could've reacted like it was threatened and killed the kid, who knows.
