i think i got it. when theres an even amount of squares he chooses an odd number. vice versa when theres aneven amount of squares he makes it an even number so even in the first step, its IMPOSSIBLE to get the house. so he eliminates it and continues. by doing this,he narrows down your choices and he basicly MAKES you go to the happy face. if that makes sense...

He just determines what square cannon possibly be selected based on the number of moves he gives you each time and the amount of squares. Reallynot that complex of a concept.
