My Book 320 GB (not sure on exact space) Western Digital external hard drive failed about 2-3 weeks ago.
It turns on and everything, but it doesn't come up on the computer. It is a My Book external from like 2007 I think.
It was connected to a PC at the parents crib and the computer is an HP from like 2005-2007 also and would constantly freeze up and you would have to hold down the power button to manually shut it down so I think that's what caused the hard drive to probably fail.
It was one of those hard drives that was powered from an A/C wall plug also.
I still have all of the music on my iPod Classic, but I can't add anything to it now because iTunes can't locate the folders from the external and if I sync the iPod with iTunes it might erase all of the music because it can't be located not to sure about this part?
Now I was going to help my mother buy another PC this black Friday for like $500 an ASUS desktop I saw on Amazon to restart rebuilding everything again and get another External.
The HP desktop she has now that's been freezing up and very slow has been working for her lately I guess because now she backed out of me helping her the ASUS or another PC this black friday but if I would like to go ahead and purchase it for her she would have now complaints
Now my chick had got me a iMac desktop computer in 2014 that I must have used no more than 20 times so far. We only really use it to find movies to look at online and then hook it up to our TV via HDMI to watch movies on the TV.
So I was just going to buy a PC for myself now at my spot and use that for my music library, but I was thinking I should just use the Mac since it's there. I've only used a PC before for iTunes and my music, but I've had my Macbook Pro since like 2007.
How big of a difference would it be and do you guys recommend using the Mac for my music library or keep how it is to just watch movies?
Also, about the external hard drive do you guys recommend me to get a SSD one since they fail less or should I go ahead and get a WD Ultra Passport that doesn't use an external power source so it might now fail so easily.
Another thing is that Mac desktop I'm not sure it has a CD drive so I had some music on CD's but I don't know if I want to go back and redownload everything back.
What advice on building back up my music collection if I sign up to one of those sites like spotify they offer unlimited downloading so I can just pay for one month and download like crazy... not sure how this works. I just learned how to download music in like 2009
Any advice would be appreciated... thanks!
