Do you have a Storage Unit?

Man I’ve made that threat so many times to my sister and my mother. So much clothes that they know they’ll never wear  :smh:

They’ll wait for me to finish my rant and then politely ask “so can you drop these bags over later? K thanx”.

I don’t even get it man, like calm down with all this Lilly silk buying off Instagram and coats.

her latest deal is she found out about this school in Italy where all the people learn to make clothes for Louis Vuitton and Gucci and what not. They sell them for pretty cheap for hand made Italian leather stuff. So now we got ******* gloves popping up in the mail with belts everyday. I swear I’m gonna clown her for 100 years if she pops up with some red dead redemption leather trench coat or something.

I had storage once while I was in between spots and living at my dad's house. I ended up paying more for storage than the value of my furniture etc. If it weren't for my sneaker collection it would've made no sense.

Ever since then I said I'd never do storage again. I still own a decent size sneaker collection but I would never keep more than I can keep at my crib (or at least a crib I own).

Storage is a super first world problem imo and a clear sign that many of us have become hoarders.

My mom has been running her own business for the last 25 years or so and it's always resulted in a massive amount of unnecessary paperwork around her home. As a kid my sister and I would just throw **** away when cleaning the house. After we realized it had no impact on her business we knew she just had a problem letting go of **** (in some ways we all do).

By no means am I perfect but I do try to regularly purge by selling off **** or donating both sneakers and clothes to goodwill or people I just know (I legit lost what is probably worth somewhere in the 5 figure range just donating sbs to goodwill in 2019 before the recent boom), while it sucks to lose the money I'm happy to get rid of **** that was literally just sitting for years. I couldn't imagine paying to store it at this point in my life.

Moms actually recently asked me if I want anything in her crib after she passes (she's in her 60s) and outside of a couple of pics neither my sister nor I really want or need anything. I would hate to imagine if she had a storage and was just holding on to **** just because. I've seen it happen too many times and the kids just toss it.

mplsdunk mplsdunk , seems like some of those purchases could make them money Or.....have you guys looking to buy another storage due to running out of space!
I remember when the og storage we had was just big enough for Christmas decorations, surf boards and bicycles, lol.

Honestly she’s always buying stuff buy she sells a ton of stuff too on posh mark. She makes a couple grand a year off it.

she has a big closet so it’s not my deal I just talk ****. we don’t have a storage unit. I got an areain the basement for that.

Never knew that was a thing.

Are the auctions publicly announced? How would someoneNOT in the know be aware of when those are happening?
You never watched Storage Wars? They find a lot of gems in these units. Some units are duds though and they struggle to break even.

I got a storage unit. Only valuable thing in it is my big box of trophies from a kid. We have a small 1 bedroom with very little storage place. $65 a month to have somewhere to put a bunch of stuff is a good deal for me - keeps the apartment looking minimalistic and nice. Main stuff i have in there:
-Trophies
-Office chair
-Bulky clothes
-Pet stuff

It’s definitely not “needed” but its nice to have for now for peace of mind about our living condition being nice at the apartment and not cluttered

Had a storage unit for a few months when I was bouncing between places. Mainly just to make moving around easier. Did a significant purge prior to moving cross country. Trying my best to avoid accumulating “stuff.”

I would drive by at all hours of the day. People were definitely living in some units. And others had theirs filled to the top with junk.

This just made me realize I pay more for my tiny PO box than I did my 8x10 storage unit

I’ve heard owning storage units is a good business. I’m sure there’s variables to consider (location, competition, and of course cost) but once it’s up and going it’s highly passive.... I keep seeing new storage units popping up and I think to myself damn someone else getting the bread

edit-reading a little bit online/reddit, seems like a good idea but dealing with deadbeats and the auction process can be a pain in the butt, someone suggested an RV storage parking lot is a similar idea but without the extra work. 🤔 hmm

Where else would I store da coal from da mines.

Oh man, when I moved out my house into my moms. I rented a storage unit. That was around the time I got into my addiction. End up losing all my stuff. All my d/s kicks from ‘02. I wasn’t even mad at the time. Now that I got clean I always thing of that sh*t, a lot of stuff from childhood I can’t get back. Cause addiction...
Anyways, you guys have a great thanksgiving. I’m coming up on 1 year clean

Hey guys anyone have experience storing sneaker collection in storage? Looking to move stuff out of the house but worried about theft, humidity, mold ruining the collection? Any other ideas? Thanks

Find a modern storage unit facility that is build in modern era, they have better options for storage and security. Make sure it's not build near a flood zone, and read thru the contract like the Bible. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. Debating whether to keep or move out so I’ll do some research.
