CRACKED FOAMPOSITE THREAD

I traded a pair of Supreme x Nike Air Force 1 Low, Black 11/2012 release, for these:

from a trusted and well established eBay seller.  I really like them!  I mean, the material is really cool looking, and the shoes, in hand, feel very substantial and well made, yet surprising light on foot!! ("Black Friday" Nike Air Force 1 Posite FL Max)

I received shipment of these fine kicks on Saturday, January 12th 2012.  I wore them around the house, feeling happy to have owned my first pair of shoes made with foamposite material.  When I woke on Sunday, January 13th 2012, I noticed a small mark on the left shoe, near the toe box where the shoe bends when I walk.  I tried to wipe it off, thinking it was just some gunk ore something, but it would not wipe off.  Upon further inspection I noticed:

Cracks!

I called Nike, just to see if they might want to take look at the shoe, and perhaps stand behind their product.  Telephone call to the help people; no help.  Several emails, case opened and I get:

Hello Michael,

Thanks for contacting Nike about a pair of shoes you purchased on eBay and now giving you problems. Nike is aware of counterfeit products in the market and is working towards eliminating this problem.

Because there is not one specific way to tell you if the product is authentic or not, we are unable to advise or assist you with the shoes. For future purchases we strongly encourage you to only purchase products from authorized Nike retailers. Products purchased from a non-authorized retailer or auction sites are at your own risk and not covered under our claims process.

To report any future counterfeit concerns, please email

[email protected].

And upon further pleas for help:

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. However, because eBay is not an authorized Nike dealer I am unable to assist any further. Our warehouse inspectors will only inspects shoes that meet our terms and conditions.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Michael
Nike

I now realize my mistake of actually trying to be honest with Nike about where I procured these kicks. But regardless of all of this, I would like to see if anyone else has had issues with Nike FOAMPOSITE.  Post any photos here, if you would like.

I hope that Nike will help me out with these shoes, because the CRACKS ARE GETTING BIGGER.  I have always worn Nike shoes, some more well made than others, but I would be a very happy consumer if they would not hide behind the argument that any Nike product bought on eBay is a fake.  By refusing to even look at my shoes to determine authenticity implies that Nike considers ALL Nikes bought from eBay.com to be counterfeit.  Thanks for reading, and post you issues here!

Wow. I never imagined foams would crack. I thought you could send shoes that are up to a year old back for a voucher. It's sad that nike considers much of there product sold on e bay to be fake....I sell a lot of my Jordan's on e bay and they are in no way fake. If I were you, I would just stop wearing the shoe and re list on e bay for whatever you can get. I'm sorry at your loss. I'm sure the person who sold these to you didn't have any idea this would happen

Thanks man, and agreed- I in no way blame the vendor who I traded for these.  I know they are authentic, Nike are just being d*cks about it.

Now this has me worried about my other foams as well. This is a new one for me for sure. I saw the other thread w that guys cracked stealths, because these were so new I'd still try to send them back. I'm now on the fence about buying any more foams in the future if they are going to Start cracking. Too expensive for them to do that

Nike products have a 2 year warranty so if you buy them for retail and wear them then you'd be OK as far as receiving compensation for defective pairs.

As said in the AF1 thread, just call Nike back with different contact info.  Problem solved.  There's no reason they won't give you a voucher as long as you don't let them know where you got them.  I haven't returned a defective pair of shoes to them in years, but I don't recall ever having to have proof of purchase.

Honestly, this thread could potentially screw you even further, since folks from Nike do browse NT.  But I agree with you about it being ridiculous that legit product bought from eBay isn't covered.  Shouldn't they know their product well enough to determine whether or not something is counterfeit once they receive said item?

Absolutely agreed.  I would consider getting a new pair IF and ONLY IF, I bought them form Nike or another authorized retailer.  Then there can be absolutely no dispute as to whether or not Nike will stand behind the product.

Not screwing me at all.  Their (Nike's) stance is clear, my foams are counterfeit, period.  I will not be AFRAID of Nike.  What are they going to do, file a lawsuit for libel?  I'm sure there are plenty of consumer advocates who would be willing to come to bat for a possible precedent.  WE are the customers.  WE pay them OUR money for products.  There is nothing even remotely idealistic about these statements. I have been a Nike customer for years.  No, not afraid of Nike.

I have not returned a pair in years to Nike but they never asked me where i got my shoes from so I think you are worrying for nothing, just being honest screwed you and Nike is being shady.

Bro just walk into a nike store and you will get store credit for whatever price its going for no questions asked, or call back and say you got them at footlocker.

This. When I said paid retail, I didnt mean retail specifically from the store. I meant not having to pay above retail so that a person wont have to take a financial loss for the shoe. ie. paying 300 for black/red XIs then only getting a 185 voucher back.

I know Nike won't help me any more regarding this. Plus I will not rat out the vendor who I traded.  I do not trust Nike to tell the truth as to the authenticity of the shoe anyway (although this may be silly).  Ideally, I would like them to take the shoe, determine authenticity, and then send me them back.  I would pay round trip shipping.  I don't wan't a new pair of shoes, nor will I say where I got them.  I informed Nike of this, and I was told that none of this is a possibility.  Remember, I fully believe that the shoes are authentic.

So now, I am just letting people know so that they can be AWARE of a possibility.  Just hoping to help other people make a more informed decision with regard to how they spend their hard earned money.  Anything less is irresponsible.  I mean $200+ may be chump change to some, but to me it is a lot of money.

I have the original 97 Foamposite One (beat as hell) and there are hella visible cracks on it.. Hell even my Pewters have cracks by the carbon fiber plate.. I have really flat feet so it tends to do a number on Foam based shoes in order for them to mold to my shape.. Its the paint that cracks over time or due to stress, not the foamposite shell..

You opened my eyes. I'm done w foams now
foams crack, but thats after YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS

i haven't had a pair do that since....

ASP1.jpg

amd thats after EXTENDED use and wear and tear on da flex crease on da thinest portion of da material...

these newer thinner foamposite kicks maybe not be good money in da long term....

Brah, I wasn't insinuating that you're afraid of Nike.  I hope you wouldn't be.  All I was saying is that by posting this information online after them already shooting you down, you could potentially be screwing yourself out of getting something done for you.  I mean, it was you that wrote that you hope Nike will help you out with these shoes.  Like I said, Nike employees do browse NT--so putting your story (along with specific emails) out there could catch the eye of an employee and raise a red flag should you further try to get something done for you.  I would hope that it would do the opposite, meaning that you making this public would push them to fix the issue for you, but this is Nike.  They give no dambs and aren't looking to win moral battles.

I totally respect that you're informing the NT community of Nike's policy regarding shoes bought on eBay.  But I think you're going a little too deep with this talking about ratting people out.

It isn't even that deep, serious or difficult.  I mean, I agree with the ideal scenario that you described above--it would be great if Nike would do the right thing.  But that ain't happening and Nike already told you that.  So I was just responding to you with how to get done what you want done (Nike helping you out) in a way that isn't what you'd ideally want.  But I can guarantee you that doing what myself and others have suggested will get you a voucher, which will mean that your $200+ didn't go to waste.

I guess I should ask if this a moral battle or do you want some compensation for your faulty product?  On one hand you say that you don't want a new pair of shoes.  But then you say that $200+ isn't chump change, which I definitely agree with.  Bottomline:  GET YOUR VOUCHER!!!  They owe it to you.

Anyone knows when nike started this no returns for defected pairs if you didn't get from an authorized dealer policy?

I remember I had a defected pair of 1/2 cent royals that I got from SC and they were willing to take my defected pair even without receipt. That was like 2-3 years ago though.
Looks like you may have to take the L OP. I really can't blame Nike not wanting to accept with all the scams and fakes (getting better by the day) that are out there. Nike have the right to turn your pair down being that you got it from ebay with no receipt

Cool, bro-  I dind't think you were insinuating anything- I was just worked up about this earlier, just venting really (prefer 'passionate' to 'hot headed,' haha, although the two have been know to get confused).   I'm sure everything will work out regarding this, by and by.  Thanks for the advice also, always appreciated.  And to the others posting pics of their cracked foams, thanks for sharing.  I would have no problem if they were like 10 years old, but mines are brand new, so naturally I was a little pissed. Truth be told, I may buy another foam shoe in the future, it will just be from NDC or FL or such, and if I can't get for retail, then I'll have to just keep on waitin'.  Thanks to all again, seriously.  But I still think Nike cannot simply ignore and write off all Nike eBay sales, considering eBay sale/resale prices fuel significant press coverage and create considerable hype around their products.  They are just wallkin' that thin line...

Yeah- I am a terrible liar- even though I fully believe that there is a time and place for everything.  Thank, bro.

My 30 days old Stealth Foamposite starts cracking at the toe, right below where the fabric is sewn together.

Bought them from Nike directly, and was asked to send them some pics, so I'm sure this will be resolved under warranty.

Bit bummed about it that it happened, but only because these were my first foams and I loved how comfortable they are.

Now I'm a bit "scared" to ever buy another pair of foams, so kinda curious if this happens more often.

Though by the comments I read on NT hardly anyone has cracks in their foams, so this seems bad luck.

If this crack was at another spot I wouldn't worry so much, but because it's right where the fabric is stitched on top

and your toes twist on your feet, it looks like it will only tear further in the future. This was after 5 days of (office) wear.

Will keep you posted on the reply I get from Nike.

You should have no problem since you bought them directly from NIke.  Mine were from eBay, therefore I am SOOL.  But I'm glad that you will have your issue resolved!
