Apple is actively conducting an internal investigation into the Mac Defender malware attack. An internal document with a Last Modified date of Monday, May 16, 2011 notes that this is an “Issue/Investigation In Progress.

I don't see the big deal here. Customer downloads and installs something that is a virus and they want Apple to fix it? Unlike Windows Malware this Malware has to be installed by an Admin user. They shouldn't have to fix something that isn't their fault.

They don't benefit from stock price they benefit from the increase in targets.
