I have a pair that is virtually brand new I wear them like 2 times a weak and they just cracked. Can I return them to Nike for a refund because I know this is common in Air Max 90s they are 3 years old but look new?

Nope. That would considered normal wear & tear. If you've been collecting for any amount of time now you will see that Nike switched over from having dye in the rubber (back in the 90s) to simply painting over the rubber midsole.

You can try sending them in for a voucher but IMHO they will say you're out of luck. This is not a defect, but rather a sign of Nike ramping up the profit margin.

Last I checked Nike returns have to be within a 2 year date of production & more often than not involve stuff like blown Air-Sole units, leaks, etc.

Paint is part of their game.

x2, sad to say nike's taking advantage of the sneaker addicts such as myself by focusing on profits more than quality

This isn't a new trend for Nike... Different day, same *+$... Huf, Nash and many before them have had the same issues... SMH

Sand out the painted midsole, and buy some Angelus paint with some finisher/polisher or w/e to clean it up with.

Should look close to the original.

Cracking is what you have to get used to now, cheap painted misoles

He's going to have to do this repeatedly since every time he wears them hard the material is compressed & he'll get the dreaded "chipping + cracking" effect.

See any worn AJ FIre Red IIIs for reference

Go light on the coats & try to use some clearcoat on top.

SMH you don't see this happening to other kicks (e.g., Asics, New Balance, etc.) I've sworn off AM90s for this reason mainly. Almost as bad as some recent white/light midsoled AM95s too

not true....i've had a pair of 90's repainted on the midsoles and they have held up better than the original factory paint. If you do it right and use the right paint, u will have a good amount of time wearing them before having to do it again.
