WHADDAAAAAP NT!
CANT EVEN TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM TO BE FINALLY POSTING THESE AND HAVE THEM OFF MY PLATE!!
I have visualized about doing this custom for maybe 2-3 years and the inspiration came from my favorite NBA player of all time Jason
Kidds shoes! I've probably been actually working on these for a year or so now and by my luck i also came across the inspiration itself the
Nike Air Kidds on eBay (thanks to my saved searches )
To me the Columbia IV's were a great canvas to paint on and it already having a blue midsole and accents made it a perfect custom. Btw I wore the '99 IVs maybe a dozen times before the midsole started to get weak and crumble so all you jordanheads dont get mad that i customed a classic, and they are also re-releasing in january which made me feel less bad haha.
I thought about incorporating the zipper seam from the Air Kidd onto the AJ IV and wanted to create a sort of KILTIE type tongue like some golf shoes have to cover the laces. Another thought was about putting the zippered kiltie BEHIND the laces and that ultimately led me to think about not having anything on the customs tongues at all.
After not being able to pick one of those options I decided to have the zippered kiltie be removable with velcro in case i didnt like the look and can change in between the 3 looks of the tongue.
SO FROM SCRATCH i had to create the lace covering and MAKE MY OWN LACING system for the laces when the kiltie is on the top.
Another thing i may add is that when I actually got the Air Kidds in my hand I had already started customizing the AJ IV and didnt realize how detailed and intricate the material and overall look of the shoe really was.
Overall I am very happy with finishing these customs, the final result and extremely happy with having these rare gems in my possesion!
Enjoy.
P.S. I took nice detailed photos but for some reason uploading them brings the quality down a bit. Sorry y'all
