Why are G.O.A.T or Top 5 Conversations in Sports The "It" Topic?

I'm 35 years old and I can't remember a time in my life (particularly the past 3-5 years) where this topic is just being pushed down our throat at such a large volume. It doesn't matter if it's local or national TV or radio or the internet this is always the topic of choice.

Are we (sports fans) truly fascinated/interested in this topic?

Are sports media outlets just lazy or lack creativity to keep us engaged in other topics?

Is there a larger reason behind this?

Irrespective of sport these topics are discussed ad nauseum.

Also, if you tell a lie enough it becomes the truth. The ESPN machine has THOROUGHLY convinced the public that a current player is in the GOAT conversation solely from them talking about it so much.

The media today is so flooded and 80% un needed that we have to just fling crap at the wall constantly for "debate." Cause we have air time we need to fill.

We've said this before....the greatest thing about MJ was the fact he got to play in that era's media. If he were playing today they would have torn him down, "debated" his worth, had so many segments about him that half the country would have hated him. Mike certainly didn't have it easy back then with the media (made clear in the Doc) but we will never again have an athlete as loved as him across the country, because the media now does not allow it. That's pretty sad.

Don't worry though, today we'll get 900 more articles about "Lebron vs. Jordan" to keep us busy!

Because there is literally nothing else to talk about, sports-wise. Also, these debates bubble up during off seasons anyway, as all-time greats (like LeBron) add to their resumes. We're just seeing a more extreme form of it because there's nothing going on. Also, it's not like athletes regularly drop 10-part documentaries that spark debate.

The unfortunate thing though is manufactured debates cycle through all the scenarios and then circle back to the same conclusion. It makes us all look stupid, but that's what sports air time does (and that's half the fun, I get it)

It was never fair to LeGod to have ESPN compare him to MJ by year two in the league (or was it high school?), and then that train goin down the tracks till the end of time, looking for a new conclusion that is not gonna be there.

No one in history came out of the womb more talented in basketball than LeBron James. The unfortunate thing here, however, is... in basketball GOAT hierarchy a player would have to (basically) win 10+ scoring titles (LeBron has 1), go at least 6 for 6 in NBA Finals (LeBron has 6 Finals LOSSES), and win 6+ Finals MVPs (LeBron has 3).

Fair or not, (and I would sometimes vote not fair) but that's how GOAT debates truly work in this industry. Championship paper success on top of individual.

It's gonna be a long time before Mike is even CLOSE to knocked off, we can debate other **** for awhile.
